Xpeng launches MONA L05 SUV from 139,800 yuan, with BEV and EREV options

Xpeng's MONA L05, a new mid-size SUV, starts at 139,800 yuan ($19,700) for the BEV version and 149,800 yuan ($21,100) for the range-extender, offering up to 635 km CLTC range on the electric model.

Xpeng has launched the MONA L05, a new mid-size five-seat SUV under its MONA series, with both battery-electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) powertrains. The model, which went on sale on October 29, is offered in six variants with limited-time prices starting at 139,800 yuan (about $19,700) for the pure-electric version, according to NetEase Auto.

The BEV lineup includes four trims: the 560 Plus at 139,800 yuan, the 535 Max at 149,800 yuan, the 635 Max at 159,800 yuan, and the 635 Ultra SE at 171,800 yuan. The super range-extender versions, which combine a battery pack with a petrol generator, are priced at 149,800 yuan for the 1310 Max and 161,800 yuan for the 1310 Ultra SE. All prices are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.

The L05 is larger than the existing MONA L03 sedan, with dimensions of 4,870 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,636 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,940 mm. Xpeng says the SUV offers an 87% interior space efficiency, with a 102-litre front trunk and a 702-litre rear boot that can expand to 1,913 litres.

Powertrain and range

The pure-electric L05 offers four CLTC range options: 615 km, 635 km, 640 km, and 660 km. The top CLTC figure of 635 km translates to roughly 508-540 km under the more conservative WLTP cycle (est.). The BEV version has a combined energy consumption of 11.7 kWh per 100 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 15.8 minutes, adding up to 285 km of range in 10 minutes.

The range-extender version provides a CLTC electric-only range of up to 310 km and a combined range of up to 1,310 km. Its WLTC combined fuel consumption is 2.3 litres per 100 km, and in depleted-battery mode it uses 5.26 litres per 100 km.

The L05 is equipped with Xpeng's Turing AI driver-assistance system, with the Ultra SE trim featuring the second-generation VLA model with 1,500 TOPS of computing power. The Max version uses a distilled version that retains over 90% of the full model's capability. Xpeng notes that the system is a driver-assistance feature, not full autonomous driving, and requires the driver to keep hands on the wheel.

Safety and comfort

Safety features include seven airbags, a high-strength steel-aluminium body, and a battery pack with a protective armour layer. The car can cut off high-voltage power within 5 milliseconds after a collision and automatically lower windows, unlock doors, and call for help. A driver-fatigue system can pull the vehicle over and send a distress signal to other Xpeng cars within 1 km.

Inside, the L05 features a 17.3-inch central touchscreen and a 26.8-inch head-up display, along with massaging, ventilated, and heated front seats. The cabin includes a zero-gravity passenger seat and modes for napping and watching movies. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on November 1, with the new Moon Silver ROAM trim package following in January 2027.

Xpeng says the MONA series has delivered over 360,000 units globally in two years. The L03 received 12,136 blind orders from European customers between July and September, with European deliveries starting on October 13.
