The 2026 Wuhan International Auto Show opened on October 30 at the Wuhan International Expo Center, bringing together more than 140 automotive brands and over 1,500 vehicles across 180,000 square meters of exhibition space. The show, themed “Smart Connected New World, Driving Fun New Life,” features 60-plus models and technologies making their national or central China debut, according to the Chinese outlet 电动邦 (EV Kingdom).
Major brands and regional collaboration
Mainstream passenger car brands including BYD, Nio, Xpeng, Li Auto, Xiaomi, and Tesla are all present, alongside traditional automakers. Dongfeng Motor Group has brought all eight of its brands to the show at the highest specification for the first time, highlighting its push into the new-energy vehicle (NEV) segment. A notable feature is the “Wuhan plus five cities” joint exhibition, with more than 30 brands from Xiangyang, Shiyan, Yichang, Jingmen, and Suizhou participating, showcasing the broader Hubei automotive industry chain.
The show extends beyond vehicle displays with a “seven plus” innovation model that integrates core components, cutting-edge technology, aftermarket services, future mobility scenarios, and dynamic driving experiences. A dedicated zone covers power batteries, electric drive systems, intelligent cockpits, and automotive-grade chips, while a future mobility area introduces flying cars, low-altitude aircraft, and humanoid robots.
New debuts and technology highlights
Among the notable premieres, the Volkswagen ID.ERA 5X makes its national debut, while Voyah Dreamer 9 and Mengshi X700 have their central China first showing. The Yixuan X9 and all-new Yixuan 007 are also launched during the show. The number of debuts has doubled compared to the previous edition, underscoring the show's role as a platform for new product and technology launches.
In terms of technology, BYD is displaying its second-generation blade battery and megawatt flash charging 2.0, reflecting a shift in competition from simple range comparisons to comprehensive charging efficiency and vehicle technology systems. The show also features commercial vehicles, custom-modified cars, classic cars, and RV camping areas.
For consumers, the show offers test drives, stunt performances, and cultural activities. The city of Wuhan is providing trade-in subsidies and consumption vouchers to boost car sales. Buyers who scrap an old car and purchase a new-energy passenger vehicle can receive a subsidy of 12% of the vehicle price, up to 20,000 yuan (about $2,800), while those buying a petrol car with an engine displacement of 2.0 liters or less get 10%, up to 15,000 yuan (about $2,100). For replacement purchases, the subsidy is 8% (max 15,000 yuan) for new-energy vehicles and 6% (max 13,000 yuan) for petrol cars. Additionally, Wuhan and its districts are jointly issuing 100 million yuan (about $14.1 million) in auto consumption vouchers, with amounts ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 yuan depending on the vehicle price.
The show runs until November 2, with nine forums and industry events covering NEVs, intelligent connected vehicles, autonomous driving, and the aftermarket. The 2026 China Automobile Drift Championship will also take place at the Wuhan International Circuit from October 30 to November 1, with free admission for show ticket holders.
