MG global new-energy sales top 85,000 units in October

SAIC's MG brand sold over 85,000 new-energy vehicles worldwide in October, with domestic China sales exceeding 31,000 units, according to Sina Auto.

MG, the British-born brand now owned by China's SAIC Motor, sold more than 85,000 new-energy vehicles globally in October, according to a sales update published by Sina Auto. The figure covers the brand's full new-energy lineup, which includes battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models sold across its home market and overseas.

In China alone, MG's new-energy sales climbed past 31,000 units during the month, the company said. The October performance, which MG described as a strong showing in the traditional "silver October" shopping season, marks a continuation of growth for the brand's electrified range in both domestic and international markets.

Global push underpins growth

MG has positioned itself as one of the more internationally active Chinese-owned car brands, with sales in Europe, the UK, Australia, Southeast Asia and Latin America. The brand's global sales network has helped it offset slower domestic demand in some segments, and its new-energy models have become a key growth driver.

The October result suggests MG is maintaining momentum in overseas markets even as some European countries adjust tariffs on Chinese-built electric vehicles. MG's parent SAIC has been among the Chinese automakers most exposed to European trade policy, but the brand's local production plans and model mix have helped it navigate the changing landscape.

Domestic rebound

The domestic figure of more than 31,000 units represents a notable rebound for MG in China, where competition has intensified with aggressive pricing from BYD and other domestic rivals. MG's new-energy lineup in China includes models such as the MG4 EV and MG Cyberster, which target different segments from compact hatchbacks to sports cars.

Sina Auto, the Chinese news outlet that reported the figures, noted that MG's performance in both markets reflected growing consumer recognition of the brand's new-energy products. The company did not provide a breakdown by model or market in its announcement.

MG's October global sales of more than 85,000 new-energy vehicles would rank it among the larger Chinese-owned EV brands by monthly volume, though still behind leaders like BYD. The brand's continued expansion overseas, particularly in Europe, will be watched closely as trade policies evolve.
