Chery's iCAR brand has unveiled a factory-developed accessory package for its V27 range-extender SUV, aiming to give light off-road and camping enthusiasts a warranty-safe alternative to aftermarket modifications. The Wilderness Expedition kit, announced by Chinese outlet NetEase Auto, is designed to bolt onto the V27 using existing mounting points, with no drilling or cutting required.
The kit includes round-tube front and rear bumpers, with the front unit carrying a 7-inch integrated off-road light bar and expansion interfaces. The rear bumper doubles as a step for accessing roof loads. Side round-tube ladders protect the paintwork and provide roof access, while side-mounted racks can hold recovery boards and water containers. A quick-release roof rack with adjustable crossbars includes corner auxiliary lights that function as turn signals, hazard lights and daytime running lights. The package also adds Black Bear all-terrain tyres on CL-forged wheels, plus aluminium-magnesium skid plates covering key underbody components and an aluminium centre-console mount for phones and action cameras.
iCAR positions the package as a one-stop solution versus the Tank 300, a popular GWM off-roader, arguing that Tank 300 owners must piece together aftermarket parts that can void the factory warranty. "The biggest highlight is damage-free installation," NetEase Auto quoted the kit's appeal to novice owners, noting that private modifications often involve drilling and cutting that invalidate coverage.
Powertrain and positioning
The V27 itself is an EREV (range-extender electric vehicle), combining an electric drivetrain with a small petrol engine that charges the battery on longer trips. The four-wheel-drive version's electric motors deliver 335 kW (about 449 hp), and the CLTC combined range is rated at 1,200 km (about 746 miles). That CLTC figure is roughly 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard, so a realistic WLTP estimate would be around 960-1,020 km (est.). The vehicle also offers multi-terrain driving modes for gravel and mud, plus highway pilot assist and automated parking.
NetEase Auto notes the kit adds weight and increases drag, raising energy consumption on highways and in off-road conditions, and it is best suited to light trails and campsites rather than hardcore overlanding. For urban-only drivers, the package is likely overkill, the outlet said.
No pricing for the Wilderness Expedition kit has been announced. The V27 is part of iCAR's push into the growing Chinese market for affordable off-road-capable electric vehicles, a segment where brands such as BYD's Fangchengbao and GWM's Tank are also competing.
