Geely has launched the Xingrui L Plus, the first model in its China Star Plus series, at a launch event held at the Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit on Oct 17. The sedan is available with two powertrains - a hybrid and a turbocharged petrol - with limited-time prices ranging from 109,700 yuan (about $15,450) to 143,700 yuan (about $20,240), according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (EV Kingdom).
The hybrid i-HEV version pairs a 1.5TD dedicated hybrid engine with an 11-in-1 hybrid drive unit, priced between 109,700 and 139,700 yuan. The 2.0TD petrol version uses a high-output engine mated to an Aisin 8-speed automatic, priced from 113,700 to 143,700 yuan. Both powertrains come in four trim levels each, with seven purchase incentives including a 1,000-yuan deposit worth 11,000 yuan.
Lidar and hybrid efficiency
The Xingrui L Plus is notable for bringing lidar to a mainstream petrol sedan. It pairs one lidar unit with three millimeter-wave radars and 11 high-definition cameras, supporting Geely's Qianli Haohan H5 driver-assistance system that covers both urban and highway navigation scenarios. The cabin runs Flyme Auto 2 software on a 15.4-inch 2.5K central touchscreen, with a 16.6-inch head-up display and multi-zone voice control.
On efficiency, the i-HEV version claims a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 3.98 L/100 km, running on 92-octane petrol, with a combined range exceeding 1,000 km. The hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, while the petrol version does the same sprint in 6.5 seconds with 200 kW (268 hp) and 400 Nm of torque.
The car rides on Geely's CMA architecture with a body torsional stiffness of 29,000 Nm per degree, tuned with input from Lotus engineers. It features a CCD variable-damping suspension, achieves a moose test speed of 80.2 km/h, and brakes from 100 km/h in 34.4 meters. All versions come with 11 airbags as standard, plus a blowout-stability system that keeps the car stable at 160 km/h in a straight line and 100 km/h in corners.
Geely shifts away from pure petrol
At the launch, Geely also announced that its China Star series will stop developing traditional combustion engines, with new models shifting entirely to i-HEV hybrid technology. The company said the China Star series has led China's petrol passenger car sales for nine consecutive years, with cumulative sales of over 850,000 units from January to September this year and a monthly market share above 10%.
The Xingrui L Plus measures nearly 5 meters in length with a 2,845 mm wheelbase, offering a flat rear floor and 566 liters of boot space. Higher trims add a 23-speaker audio system, four-seat 14-point massage function, and a rear center console. The launch coincided with the first round of the 2026 TCR World Tour in China, where Geely's Xingrui TCR race car took another victory, which the company cited as evidence of its race-to-road technology transfer.
Prices are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. The move signals Geely's bet that hybrid technology, rather than pure electric, will win over buyers upgrading from petrol cars who want smarter features without range anxiety.
