GAC Toyota October sales hit 53,022 units as Bozhi 3X deliveries pass 150,000

GAC Toyota reported October terminal sales of 53,022 vehicles, with its Bozhi 3X electric crossover surpassing 150,000 cumulative deliveries since launch.

GAC Toyota, the joint venture between Japan's Toyota and China's GAC Group, said its October terminal sales reached 53,022 vehicles, according to Sina Auto. The company highlighted the performance of its Bozhi 3X, a battery-electric (BEV) crossover, which has now surpassed 150,000 cumulative deliveries since it went on sale.

Bozhi 3X drives electrification push

The Bozhi 3X has become the brand's main growth driver in the transition to electrified and intelligent vehicles, GAC Toyota said in a statement. The model, which competes in China's crowded compact electric SUV segment, has won buyers with its advanced electric and driver-assistance technology, spacious interior and reliability record, the company added.

The 150,000-unit milestone marks a significant step for GAC Toyota, which has traditionally relied on petrol-powered sedans and SUVs. The joint venture has been accelerating its electrification strategy in recent years, aiming to capture a larger share of China's fast-growing new-energy vehicle market, where domestic brands such as BYD and Geely currently dominate.

GAC Toyota's overall October performance remained steady, with the 53,022-unit figure reflecting sustained demand despite intense competition and an ongoing price war in China's auto market. The company did not break down sales by powertrain type.

Market context

The sales data comes as foreign-brand joint ventures in China face mounting pressure from local rivals that offer more advanced software and lower prices. GAC Toyota has responded by introducing models like the Bozhi 3X, which is positioned as a tech-forward electric vehicle with a competitive price tag.

While the company did not disclose pricing for the Bozhi 3X in its announcement, the model is sold in China with a guide price before taxes and incentives. GAC Toyota has not provided an official range figure for the Bozhi 3X in this release, but the vehicle is available in several configurations with different battery options.

The joint venture's performance will be watched closely as it navigates the transition to electrification while maintaining its reputation for quality and reliability. With cumulative deliveries of the Bozhi 3X now exceeding 150,000 units, GAC Toyota appears to have found a formula that resonates with Chinese consumers seeking an electric vehicle from a trusted brand.

Analysts note that the Bozhi 3X's success could help GAC Toyota build momentum for additional electric models, as the company seeks to expand its presence in China's new-energy vehicle market, which accounted for more than half of all passenger car sales in the country in recent months.
