FAW Besturn has announced that the five-door version of its Xiaoma (Little Horse) mini EV will officially go on sale globally on October 28. The new model, an addition to the Xiaoma family, brings upgrades in space, intelligence, safety, and range, and is aimed primarily at young families and female consumers, according to Gasgoo (盖世汽车), as republished by D1EV.
Specs and features
The five-door Xiaoma measures 3,350 mm in length, 1,540 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,215 mm. Both front and rear seats can be folded flat, expanding cargo and rest space. The exterior features crystal-cut LED headlights.
Powering the car is a battery supplied by CATL, with a CLTC-rated range of up to 328 km. As a reminder, CLTC figures tend to be 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so the equivalent WLTP range is estimated at around 262-279 km (est.). The car comes standard with dual front airbags for both driver and passenger. For in-car tech, it includes a dual-zone AI voice interaction system to improve daily usability.
Market performance and launch plans
Since the Xiaoma series first launched in May 2024, cumulative global sales have approached 300,000 units. At the launch event, FAW Besturn will reveal the final name for the five-door model, chosen through an earlier public naming contest. The company also plans a marketing collaboration with the mobile game Happy Match (开心消消乐), including pop-up events across the country.
No pricing has been announced yet. The Xiaoma is positioned in the affordable mini EV segment, where competition is intense in China. The five-door version's larger body and added features are expected to differentiate it from the existing three-door model.
