BYD's Fangchengbao brand has announced that its Tai 7 SUV surpassed 300,000 cumulative sales within just one year of its market debut, according to NetEase Auto. The model also set three industry records for the fastest time to reach 300,000 units among SUVs priced at 200,000 yuan (about $28,200) and above, boxy SUVs, and mid-to-large SUVs. It has held the monthly sales crown in the boxy SUV segment for 12 consecutive months.
The Tai 7 has also made inroads overseas, launching in six Middle East and North African countries—Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Egypt, Bahrain, and Jordan—within the past six months. During that period, overseas sales reached 27,000 units, underscoring strong demand for its distinctive square-shaped design, which resonates with regional consumer tastes.
Performance and features
In September, the Tai 7 sold nearly 30,000 units in a single month, ranking first in the mid-to-large SUV segment whether counting plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) or battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) separately or together. The model's urban-off-road positioning aims to balance intercity travel with daily commuting needs.
The Tai 7 measures 4,999 mm (some versions 5,050 mm) in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. It offers approach and departure angles of 24 and 25 degrees, suitable for light off-road use. The exterior features a rugged front with dual-layer headlights and an H-shaped silver skid plate, while the rear adopts dual L-shaped taillights and a side-opening tailgate with a spare tire carrier.
Inside, the cabin supports a seven-screen setup, including a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 26-inch head-up display, and optional rear BYD Pads. Front seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while a 4.5-liter cooler/warmer fridge and a 20-speaker Devialet audio system are standard. The vehicle is equipped with BYD's God's Eye B (laser version) advanced driver assistance system and the DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension.
Powertrain and charging
The Tai 7 comes in two powertrain variants: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a pure-electric range of over 300 km (about 186 miles) and a combined range exceeding 1,400 km (about 870 miles), and a battery-electric version with a 755 km (about 469 miles) CLTC range. The EV variant is described as the world's first fast-charging boxy SUV, leveraging BYD's flash-charging technology to achieve rapid replenishment at over 10,000 charging stations nationwide.
Note: The CLTC range of 755 km is an optimistic estimate; a WLTP-equivalent figure would be approximately 604-642 km (est.), as CLTC is typically 15-20% more generous than WLTP.
Fangchengbao expects the Tai 7's momentum to continue as user口碑 spreads and the charging network expands, further cementing its position in the competitive SUV market.
