Bentley to unveil Torcal, its first electric SUV, on Sept 23

Bentley will unveil the Torcal, its first battery-electric model and a new fourth model line, at its Crewe plant on Sept 23. The SUV is expected to offer around 850 hp, a WLTP range of about 595 km and a sub-3-second 0-100 km/h sprint, according to Chinese outlet D1EV.

Bentley will unveil the Torcal, its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV), on Sept 23 at 19:19 Beijing time, according to Chinese outlet D1EV, which cited a report from Kuaikeji. The company calls the SUV the most powerful and fastest-accelerating production car in its history, and the first fully electric model in the brand's century-long existence.

The Torcal becomes Bentley's fourth model line, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. It will be hand-built at the company's headquarters plant in Crewe, UK, where Bentley has installed a dedicated production line inside a factory building dating from 1938. The facility, previously used as a machine shop and research workshop, has been reworked with precision-levelled floors to accommodate automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that move cars in production.

The new line is part of a £250 million (about 2.3 billion yuan, or roughly $324 million) self-funded investment programme at the Crewe site. In 2025, Bentley also opened a new design studio in another 1938 building, and the Torcal is among the first models led by that studio. For the interior, the company has tapped UK suppliers, including Somerset-based Fox Brothers, which provides wool fabric for the cabin.

Crewe employs more than 4,000 people and spans 521,000 square metres, of which 167,000 square metres is indoor space. Bentley has operated there for 80 years, building the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga, while its Mulliner bespoke division handcrafts continuation models such as the Speed Six.

Expected specs

Based on previously disclosed information, the Torcal is expected to use an 800-volt electrical architecture with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout. Output is projected at around 850 horsepower (625 kW), powered by a 113 kWh battery pack. Bentley targets a WLTP range of about 595 km (370 miles) and a 0-100 km/h sprint of under 3 seconds. The five-seat SUV measures roughly 5 metres in length.

The launch marks a significant step for Bentley as it transitions to electrification, with the Torcal positioned as the brand's flagship electric offering. D1EV noted that the model is scheduled for official release on Sept 23, with further details expected at the unveiling event.
