VW Anhui opens pre-sales for ID. UNYX 09 from 199,900 yuan

Volkswagen Anhui has started pre-sales for its first B-class smart BEV coupe, the ID. UNYX 09, priced from 199,900 to 249,900 yuan, featuring Xpeng's ADAS and 800V architecture.

Volkswagen's Chinese joint venture, Volkswagen Anhui, has begun pre-sales for its first B-class smart battery-electric coupe, the ID. UNYX 09, with prices starting at 199,900 yuan (about $28,150) and going up to 249,900 yuan (about $35,200). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. The model, co-developed with Xpeng, is scheduled for official launch at the end of October.

The ID. UNYX 09 is the second production vehicle from the Volkswagen-Xpeng partnership, following the ID. UNYX 08. It features a sleek coupe silhouette, a DLP projection headlight (a first in its class), an 85-inch AR head-up display, and a 5C ultra-fast charging capability. The car is positioned as a blend of sporty aesthetics and family practicality, according to the Chinese news outlet NetEase Auto.

Design and interior

The exterior adopts what Volkswagen calls a "wolf-like aesthetics" design language, with a low-slung stance and sharp lines that mark a departure from traditional Volkswagen styling. The front features a fully enclosed face with a V-shaped hood crease, while the rear uses a full-width light bar. The car measures 5,081 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,509 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm.

Inside, the cabin is minimalist with a wraparound design, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a floating central touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. The 85-inch AR-HUD projects driving information onto the windshield. The interior uses low-VOC materials and infant-contact-grade seat fabrics for health and comfort. A panoramic roof with double-layer silver coating blocks 99.99% of UV rays and 97% of solar heat.

Powertrain and ADAS

The ID. UNYX 09 is offered in two battery-electric versions. The single-motor variant produces 230 kW (about 308 hp), while the dual-motor version delivers a combined 370 kW (about 496 hp). Both are powered by a 91.963 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL. The single-motor version has a CLTC range of 755 km, and the dual-motor version 705 km. In WLTP terms, these figures would be roughly 604 km and 564 km respectively (est.), as CLTC is typically 15-20% more optimistic.

For driver assistance, the car uses a vision-only system with dual Turing chips from Xpeng, enabling highway NOA and city memory navigation. This allows for "parking space to parking space" assisted driving, handling complex urban scenarios like roundabouts, unprotected left turns, and construction zones.

The chassis features a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension, with Vibracoustic dual-chamber air springs and ZF DCC variable dampers. Brembo four-piston fixed calipers provide braking. The car is available for pre-order with a 1,000 yuan deposit that can be deducted from the final price, and deliveries will prioritize early orders.
