Geely has positioned its new Galaxy Xingyao 6 EF as the official designated vehicle for the 2026 Sustainable Global Leaders Conference, held in Shanghai on October 20. The event gathered more than 300 political and business leaders to discuss sustainability, and the sedan was tasked with shuttling attendees, according to PCauto.
Methanol-electric hybrid system
The Xingyao 6 EF is a methanol-electric hybrid sedan for the family market. Its powertrain allows methanol and gasoline to be mixed in any proportion in a single tank, from 0% to 100% of either fuel. Refueling takes about three minutes. Under CLTC testing, the car achieves 1,250 km (about 213 km WLTP est.) on a full methanol tank and full battery, and 1,880 km with a full tank of gasoline and full battery. Drivers can choose electric, methanol, or gasoline as the energy source depending on the trip.
Geely has been developing methanol vehicles for nearly 20 years. To date, the company has put more than 60,000 methanol-powered vehicles into operation, accumulating over 25 billion km of driving. Its "Yuanchun" refueling network currently includes 1,228 stations, with plans to expand to 4,000 by the end of 2027. The Xingyao 6 EF is expected to launch in the near term as a mass-produced methanol-electric passenger car for households.
Design and specifications
The exterior features a large waterfall-style grille with vertical chrome trim, sharp LED headlights, and a blacked-out full-width taillight. The car measures 4,806 mm long, 1,886 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall, with a 2,756 mm wheelbase. Inside, a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen runs the Flyme Auto system, supporting dual-zone voice control, continuous recognition, and visible-to-say commands, with DeepSeek's large model integrated. Physical knobs for climate control remain for easy blind operation.
The powertrain pairs a 1.5-liter methanol-specific engine (93 kW, about 125 hp) with a P1+P3 dual-motor plug-in hybrid system. The P3 motor delivers 163 PS (about 120 kW) and 210 N·m of torque, integrated into an 11-in-1 single-speed DHT gearbox. The engine's thermal efficiency is claimed at 47.26%. Two lithium iron phosphate battery options are offered: 8.5 kWh (60 km electric-only CLTC) and 17 kWh (125 km electric-only CLTC). DC fast charging at 35 kW takes about 20 minutes from 30% to 80%, with 3.3 kW AC charging and vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharge also supported.
Running costs are a key selling point. In CLTC conditions, the car consumes 2.8–2.9 L/100 km in hybrid mode and 6.7 L/100 km on methanol. At a methanol price of 2.65 yuan per liter (about $0.37), the cost per kilometer is around 0.2 yuan (about $0.03), and with daily electric commuting, it can drop to as low as 0.06 yuan per kilometer. The combined range with a full tank and battery is claimed to exceed 1,700 km, and the 125 km electric-only version can cover a week of commuting for many city users. The methanol system also starts reliably in temperatures near -40°C, adding practical value for buyers in cold regions.
