Subaru unveils WRX GD25 with manual gearbox, limited to 350 units

Subaru has released official images of the WRX GD25, a compact sports sedan with a 2.4-litre turbocharged flat-four engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. Production is limited to 350 units, with a market launch expected next summer.

Subaru has taken the wraps off the WRX GD25, a compact sports sedan that revives the brand's rally-bred DNA with a classic boxer engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. According to Chezhiwang (车质网), the car is positioned as a collector's item, with production strictly limited to 350 units and a market launch slated for next summer.

Design and interior

The GD25 continues the Impreza family design language, featuring a hexagonal grille with a honeycomb mesh, a black lower bumper, and a large vent on the bonnet that gives the front end an aggressive, purposeful look. The side profile is muscular, with flared wheel arches and 19-inch gold alloy wheels that reveal yellow Brembo brake calipers and ventilated discs. At the rear, a carbon-fibre swan-neck spoiler and twin exhaust outlets complete the sporty aesthetic.

Inside, the cabin is minimalist and driver-focused, with a three-spoke steering wheel and heavily bolstered sports seats. The infotainment screen offers clear graphics and enough connectivity for daily use, according to Chezhiwang.

Powertrain and performance

Under the bonnet sits a 2.4-litre turbocharged flat-four engine producing 271 metric horsepower (about 200 kW), paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. The car also features Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, which should provide strong traction and handling. No performance figures were disclosed, but the combination of a manual gearbox and AWD is likely to appeal to driving enthusiasts.

The WRX GD25 is not an electric vehicle, and its limited production run suggests it is aimed at collectors rather than volume buyers. Subaru has not announced a price for the Chinese market yet, but given the limited numbers, it is expected to carry a premium over the standard WRX. Chezhiwang says it will continue to report on further details as they emerge.
