Stoneridge unveils EVO ECU platform for commercial vehicles at IAA Transportation 2026

Stoneridge has introduced its EVO ECU platform, a centralized electronic control unit designed for commercial vehicles, at IAA Transportation 2026, aiming to simplify vehicle architectures and support advanced driver assistance systems and future software-driven features.

Stoneridge, a supplier of electronic technologies for commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and off-highway equipment, has unveiled its EVO ECU platform at IAA Transportation 2026. The company demonstrated the platform on its Innovation Truck and simulator, showcasing how it works with its MirrorEye camera monitoring system and surround-view system, according to Gasgoo.

Centralized architecture for complex vehicles

The EVO ECU is designed to address the growing complexity of commercial vehicle architectures, which are increasingly incorporating ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), camera-based technologies, connectivity and software-driven functions. Unlike solutions developed primarily for passenger cars and then adapted, the EVO ECU is built from the ground up for commercial vehicles, with hardware and software designed together as a core foundation.

The platform consolidates processing power into a centralized unit tailored to the unique needs of commercial vehicles. This approach supports faster software updates, more efficient diagnostics and the ability to introduce new features without major hardware changes, according to Stoneridge.

Stoneridge president and CEO Natalia Noblet said the EVO ECU helps customers adapt to changes reshaping the commercial transport industry, including connectivity, automation and evolving regulations. The company's demonstrations at IAA show the platform working with MirrorEye and other technologies, Noblet added.

New features and rugged design

Stoneridge also introduced two new functions enabled by the EVO ECU. MirrorEye Surveillance Mode provides an extra layer of security for parked vehicles and fleets, triggering alerts and automatically recording video when someone approaches or attempts to access the vehicle. The Surround View function offers a bird's-eye view of the truck and trailer to help drivers manoeuvre in tight spaces.

The EVO ECU is engineered to withstand extreme temperatures, severe vibration and continuous operation, making it suitable for buses, coaches and off-highway equipment. It has undergone extensive field testing in Stoneridge's own test fleet and customer fleets.

The platform's scalable architecture provides additional processing power and connectivity to support emerging technologies, including ADAS, more camera applications, sensor integration and future AI functions. Stoneridge developed the software architecture with Renesas Electronics and other partners, focusing on modularity and cybersecurity to ensure safety-critical functions are isolated.
