BYD has unveiled 'Didi Xia', an AI-powered intelligent cockpit agent that the company describes as the first of its kind in the automotive industry. According to NetEase Auto, the agent quickly became one of the top three most-used intelligent voice functions among users, ranking only behind navigation and vehicle controls. It moves beyond traditional reactive voice commands, aiming to act as a proactive 'AI super secretary' that can handle tasks with a single spoken instruction.
How Didi Xia works
Didi Xia is built on BYD's Xuanji Architecture 2.0, which integrates the cabin, driving, and electric systems. It uses a cloud-edge collaboration model: on-device processing handles vehicle control commands for instant responses, while cloud computing manages complex reasoning and multi-step requests. The system incorporates four core capabilities—multimodal perception, tool invocation, skill reuse, and user memory—alongside an open ecosystem platform for third-party agents.
The agent's features are summarized in three Chinese phrases: 'wan de zhuan' (play well), 'gao de ding' (get it done), and 'liao de lai' (chat well). 'Play well' refers to its open compatibility, supporting A2A and MCP standard protocols for global developers. BYD has partnered with Alibaba's Amap, Alipay, Bilibili, QQ Music, and Fliggy, among others, to offer a wide range of agents covering travel, entertainment, lifestyle, and large-model scenarios. Users can play music, order food, book tickets, or reserve hotels with a single voice command.
'Get it done' highlights its task-handling ability, automatically breaking down complex or concurrent commands and planning optimal execution paths. 'Chat well' adds a human touch, offering multiple personas that can be switched, including a 'sarcastic mode', and after voiceprint registration, it remembers user preferences to become more personalized over time.
Rollout and future plans
Didi Xia marks BYD's transition from an app-based era to an AI-agent era, according to the company. The agent is currently being pushed via over-the-air (OTA) updates to vehicles equipped with Xuanji Architecture 2.0, including the Denza Z9GT, second-generation Denza D9, Denza N8L flash-charge version, Denza N9 flash-charge version, and the 'Da Tang' model. Future updates will extend to the Denza Z9S, Fangchengbao S, and Seagull 08, bringing the AI experience to a broader user base.
