SAIC Roewe has opened pre-sales for its Jiayue 07, a large five-seat SUV with a range-extender powertrain, at a starting price of 137,800 yuan (about $19,400). The model, which is being touted as the first AI-native vehicle from a collaboration with ByteDance's Volcano Engine, is available in three trims priced between 137,800 and 152,800 yuan (about $21,500). All prices are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
AI cabin assistant debuts
The Jiayue 07 is the first production car to feature Doubao, ByteDance's AI cabin assistant, according to Chinese outlet DiYiEV. The system uses in-cabin cameras and four-zone audio recognition to detect occupants' positions, expressions and speech, enabling what Roewe describes as a three-layer anthropomorphic interaction of movement, expression and voice. The assistant can turn its head, adjust its gaze toward different passengers, and supports dialects, Chinese-English mixing and role-play.
Underpinning the assistant is a 2,000+ SOA (service-oriented architecture) interface that lets it control vehicle hardware directly. Roewe says the system can turn natural-language requests into multi-step actions, such as planning a route that includes picking up children, shopping and charging, while adjusting cabin ambience along the way. Face ID personalises settings for different family members, and the four-zone voice system allows independent interaction from each seat.
The cabin assistant is paired with Momenta's R7 world model for assisted driving, running on a dedicated chip from Xinxin (XHEART). Together, the two systems handle what Roewe calls 'human understanding' and 'vehicle judgment', allowing the car to interpret driver intent while predicting road scenarios. The company claims the Jiayue 07 can handle complex Chinese road conditions such as mixed traffic, large roundabouts and narrow passages with stone barriers.
Range and comfort
The Jiayue 07 is powered by a range-extender (EREV) setup combining a high-efficiency petrol engine with a 44.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Roewe quotes a CLTC pure-electric range of 320 kilometres and a combined CLTC range of 1,480 kilometres. As a rough estimate, the pure-electric figure would correspond to roughly 256-272 km under the more conservative WLTP cycle.
The SUV measures nearly five metres in length with a wheelbase close to three metres, and Roewe claims it can seat three 1.8-metre-tall adults comfortably in the second row. Standard equipment includes an AI-powered fast-cooling refrigerator that can also warm food, NASA-standard dual zero-gravity seats, a rear entertainment screen with eye-protection features, and a 41-compartment storage layout with a split 834-litre boot.
Roewe also highlights the car's safety credentials, including a body with 84 per cent high-strength steel and a claimed ability to maintain stability during a tyre blowout at 140 km/h on wet roads. An AI-controlled adaptive suspension with road-scanning sensors adjusts damping 200 times per second.
During the pre-sale event, Roewe's brand general manager Qian Yang promised that the company would cover the cost of AI token consumption for Jiayue 07 owners, saying: 'We'll shoulder the technology cost; the freedom of experience is entirely yours.' The company has also implemented a three-tier permission system for data security, with physical camera shutters and on-device encryption for biometric information.
The Jiayue 07 is now available for test drives at 500 Roewe experience stores and 100 pop-up locations across China, with deliveries expected to follow after the pre-sale period.
