Qijing Auto has announced that its GX7, billed as the industry's first wide five-seat SUV, will officially launch nationwide on September 23. The model, developed jointly with Huawei, has already generated significant buzz: pre-orders surpassed 20,000 units within 18 hours of opening, according to PCauto.
The GX7 is positioned as a tech-forward offering, with L3-level autonomous driving architecture as standard across the lineup. This marks a departure from industry norms, where such technology has typically been reserved for models priced above 400,000 yuan (about $56,300). The company emphasizes that the architecture includes eight redundant systems, ensuring backup activation if any single system fails, and positions buyers for future over-the-air upgrades to higher levels of assisted driving.
Space and Versatility
One of the GX7's standout features is its 20-second one-touch flat bed conversion, achieved through a four-fold design, multi-link lifting mechanism, and dual-purpose folding headrests. The system transforms the rear seats into a flat sleeping area without requiring luggage removal or additional setup. The resulting space offers 855mm of vertical height, allowing adults to sit upright and children to stand, while still accommodating four 20-inch or two 24-inch suitcases. The vehicle supports over 12 different space configurations, catering to scenarios from office naps and long-distance breaks to outdoor camping and family time.
In terms of range, the GX7 comes standard with a custom large battery from CATL, delivering a combined full-tank and full-charge range exceeding 1,500 km. Its pure electric range is rated at 385 km on the CLTC cycle (estimated WLTP: around 310-327 km), sufficient for a week of city commuting on a single charge. A 10-minute fast charge can replenish the battery from 30% to 80%.
Huawei Tech and Pricing
The GX7 integrates Huawei's full suite of seven automotive intelligence solutions, including the Qiankun ADS 5 advanced driver assistance system, HarmonyOS cockpit, and the Chitu digital chassis. It features four lidar sensors for comprehensive perception, a first in its class, and offers millisecond-level response from the digital chassis. The HarmonyOS cockpit 6 enables seamless interaction across the vehicle's functions.
Pricing for the GX7 ranges from 249,900 to 311,900 yuan (approximately $35,200 to $43,900) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives. The company is also offering five limited-time purchase benefits, including a lifetime warranty. The model is available at 300 dealerships across 90 cities in China, with test drive vehicles now arriving at stores.
According to PCauto, the GX7 has attracted interest from owners of traditional luxury SUVs, who are drawn by the generational leap in intelligence and practical space innovations. As the launch date approaches, anticipation is building, with many potential buyers aiming to take delivery before the National Day holiday to embark on family road trips.
