Nio expands charging network to 9,529 stations nationwide

Nio has added six new battery swap and charging stations, bringing its national total to 9,529, including 4,163 swap stations and over 30,000 charging piles.

Nio has expanded its NIO Power network with the launch of six new battery swap and charging stations across China, according to PCauto. The new facilities are located in Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Datong, and Chifeng, bringing the company's total to 9,529 stations as of October 5.

Network milestones

The latest additions include two battery swap stations and four charging stations. Nio now operates 4,163 battery swap stations and 5,366 charging stations, equipped with 30,922 charging piles. The company has cumulatively provided over 120 million battery swap services since the network's inception.

Battery swap is a service unique to Nio among major Chinese EV makers, allowing drivers to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one in minutes, rather than waiting for a recharge. This approach aims to reduce range anxiety and extend battery life through centralized management.

The new stations are strategically placed along major corridors and in hospitality venues, such as hotels and resorts, to serve both urban commuters and long-distance travelers. Nio's expansion comes as part of its broader strategy to enhance the convenience of electric vehicle ownership in China.

Charging infrastructure growth

Nio's charging network, which includes both superchargers and standard chargers, is growing alongside its swap stations. The company has been investing heavily in infrastructure to support its growing fleet of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and to differentiate itself in a competitive market.

According to PCauto, the new stations are part of Nio's ongoing commitment to building a comprehensive energy service network. The company's focus on both swap and charging solutions aims to provide flexibility for users, whether they prefer the speed of swapping or the convenience of home or public charging.

Nio's expansion is notable in the context of China's broader push for electric mobility. The government has been encouraging the development of charging and swapping infrastructure to support the adoption of new energy vehicles. Nio's network is one of the largest among Chinese EV startups, with a significant lead in battery swap technology.

The company's latest milestone underscores its aggressive infrastructure build-out, which is seen as a key competitive advantage. As Nio continues to roll out new models and enter new markets, its extensive network is likely to play a crucial role in attracting and retaining customers.
