Nio ES8 hits 150,000 deliveries; Xpeng AeroHT signs UAE deal

Nio's ES8 SUV reaches 150,000 units delivered in China, setting a record for premium battery-electric models, while Xpeng AeroHT signs a strategic agreement with Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE to develop an advanced air mobility regulatory sandbox and a cross-emirate flight route.

Nio's flagship ES8 SUV has reached a milestone of 150,000 deliveries since its launch, according to the company. The achievement, announced on September 20, marks a record for a premium battery-electric (BEV) model in the 400,000-yuan (about $56,300) segment in China. The ES8, which was introduced a year ago, is part of Nio's push to solidify its position in the high-end electric SUV market.

Xpeng AeroHT expands into UAE

In a separate development, Xpeng AeroHT, the flying-car unit of Xpeng, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven emirates of the UAE. The deal, reported by Gasgoo, involves building an advanced air mobility regulatory sandbox under the supervision of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The two parties will also begin planning and demonstrating a cross-emirate route between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. The initiative aims to create standardized, replicable systems for airworthiness regulation, safe operations, and commercial deployment of flying cars.

The agreement comes as Chinese companies increasingly look to the Middle East for new opportunities in mobility technology. Xpeng AeroHT has been developing flying vehicles and has previously showcased prototypes, positioning itself as a pioneer in the emerging sector.
