New-generation Mercedes-Maybach S-Class launches in China from 1.398 million yuan

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new-generation Maybach S-Class in China with four variants priced between 1.398 million and 3.353 million yuan (about $197,000-$472,000), featuring illuminated grilles, upgraded V8 and inline-six engines, and a V12 flagship.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new-generation Maybach S-Class in China, according to the Chinese automotive outlet Chezhiwang. The ultra-luxury flagship sedan is offered in four variants with a Chinese guide price range of 1.398 million to 3.353 million yuan (about $197,000 to $472,000), before taxes and incentives.

Design and cabin upgrades

The new Maybach S-Class adopts a larger vertical grille, with illuminated elements including the grille outline, the "MAYBACH" lettering, the three-pointed star hood ornament, and the Maybach badge on the C-pillar. The headlights feature a twin-star design with rose-gold accents, while the air intakes carry chrome Maybach logos. The V12 version adds a distinctive grille insert to signal its flagship status.

Side scuff plates now project the "MAYBACH" lettering onto the ground, and the driver can power-open and close the rear doors. New 20-inch multi-spoke forged wheels and 21-inch gold MANUFAKTUR custom wheels keep the star emblem upright at all times. The rear adopts split taillights with three star-shaped inserts, and a new rear spoiler combines chrome and gloss-black sections. The classic two-tone paint, hand-sprayed over a one-week process per car, remains available.

Inside, the wraparound cockpit design continues with new trim options including carbon grey open-pore oak and amber-brown open-pore fishbone wood, plus a new "beech brown" interior colour. Nappa leather covers the seats, steering wheel, dashboard and window frames. For the first time, the Maybach S-Class offers a non-animal leather interior option.

Powertrain and rear-seat comfort

The rear continues with first-class independent seats that recline from 19 to 43.5 degrees, with a standard rear legroom extension package. The front seatbacks can tilt forward 23 degrees, freeing up to 1.4 metres of rear legroom. Rear seats include power-extending leg rests, heating, heated comfort headrests and multi-mode massage, plus a wide footrest that extends electrically from behind the front seats.

Powertrain options include a V12 engine producing 450 kW (about 603 hp), a new M177 Evo V8 with 395 kW (about 530 hp) and 750 Nm of torque, and an upgraded M256 Evo inline-six rated at 280 kW (about 375 hp).

The new Maybach S-Class keeps its position as an ultra-luxury flagship sedan, focusing upgrades on exterior details, cabin opulence, technology and rear-seat comfort. The illuminated grille and badges, along with the first-class rear seats, strengthen its tech appeal while retaining traditional luxury cues, making it a benchmark choice for buyers prioritising brand prestige and rear-seat experience in China's super-luxury segment.
