MG 07 Shakes Up China's EV Sedan Market, MG4 Tops Compact Segment

MG's new 07 sedan delivered 14,577 units in its first month, ranking second among no-定语 sedans, while the MG4 family sold 16,969 units, with the MG4 again leading the compact EV segment.

MG, the British-born brand under China's SAIC Motor, is making a strong push in the domestic electric-vehicle market. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) for September, MG's first electric sports sedan, the MG 07, delivered 14,577 units in its launch month, ranking second among sedans without qualifiers, just behind the Xiaomi SU7. The MG4 family sold 16,969 units, with the MG4 leading the compact EV segment for the second consecutive month with 13,966 units. MG's pure-electric sales reached 30,292 units in September, surpassing several major new-energy players, including Nio, Xpeng, Li Auto, Xiaomi, and Huawei-backed brands, and marking the brand's return to the top tier of China's new-energy vehicle industry.

The MG 07 is positioned in the fiercely competitive 100,000 to 150,000 yuan (about $14,100 to $21,100) sedan segment. The pure-electric 845 version offers a CLTC range of 845 km (about 525 miles; WLTP est. 676-718 km), an 800V high-voltage platform, and 5C ultra-fast charging. The laser radar version and above come with high-level autonomous driving assistance. The car features frameless doors, a fastback design, and standard front-seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The pure-electric version boasts a 168L frunk and a 697L trunk, along with standard mCDC electromagnetic suspension. MG claims the model has redefined value in its price class, combining style, comfort, and performance.

The MG 07 is also available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, the 245, which offers a pure-electric range of 245 km (about 152 miles; WLTP est. 196-208 km) and a combined range of 1,745 km (about 1,084 miles), catering to users without home charging facilities who frequently travel long distances.

MG4: A Consistent Compact EV Leader

The MG4 family has sustained its strong performance, breaking the pattern of "hot models fading after three months." With monthly sales steadily exceeding 10,000 units, the MG4 has again topped the monthly compact EV sales chart. Since its launch, the MG4 has surpassed 200,000 units produced in one year. Its success is attributed to features like cell-to-body (CTB) battery technology, an integrated thermal management system, and hybrid solid-liquid batteries, which offer more space and stronger performance, challenging the stereotype that compact EVs are merely basic city runabouts.

MG's domestic market surge is accompanied by a growing overseas presence. In September, MG's global new-energy vehicle sales reached 84,176 units, underscoring the brand's international competitiveness. According to PCauto, MG's strategy leverages SAIC's R&D resources and mature supply chain to promote technology democratization, achieving differentiation in China's highly competitive and increasingly homogeneous new-energy market.

As MG continues to refine its products and strengthen delivery capabilities, the brand aims to offer more value-driven options in the global mainstream new-energy market.
