Mengshi, the off-road brand under Dongfeng, has opened pre-sales for its new X700 SUV, a model that aims to bridge the gap between family-oriented comfort and serious off-road capability. According to PCauto, the X700 is offered in three trims with a pre-sale price range of 249,800 to 289,800 yuan (about $35,200 to $40,800), a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.
The X700 is the result of a collaboration between Mengshi and Huawei, featuring the latter's Qiankun intelligent driving and cockpit systems. The exterior retains the boxy silhouette typical of off-road vehicles but softens it with what Mengshi calls 'Xiong Hun aesthetics,' incorporating design cues inspired by Chinese culture, such as the lion-inspired front grille and headlights with patterns reminiscent of the ancient Sword of Goujian. The vehicle measures 5,035 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,910 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
Powertrain and off-road hardware
Under the hood, the X700 is powered by dual electric motors producing a combined 518 kW (about 695 hp) and 720 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds. The battery is a 68.1 kWh unit from CATL, supporting 800V fast charging that can replenish from 20% to 80% in about 18 minutes. The CLTC electric-only range is 360 km, which translates to an estimated WLTP range of roughly 290-306 km (CLTC is typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP). Combined range is stated at 1,312 km.
Off-road credentials include a maximum ground clearance of 328.8 mm, approach and departure angles of 37.5 and 38.3 degrees respectively, and a wading depth of up to 800 mm. The X700 features dual-chamber air suspension with 150 mm of adjustable height, MRC magnetorheological damping, and both electronic and mechanical rear differential locks. An AI-based all-terrain system offers five modes and a one-touch Auto mode that automatically selects the appropriate setting.
Huawei tech and interior comfort
Inside, the X700 is equipped with dual 15.6-inch displays running HarmonyOS, a 74-inch augmented reality head-up display, and a 21-speaker sound system. The cabin includes 'magic carpet' seats with 60 adjustable air bladders, a zero-gravity front passenger seat with 127-degree recline, and rear seats that can fold completely flat to create a 2,050 mm long sleeping area. The trunk offers 850 liters of space, and there are 26 mounting points for accessories, plus a 7-liter refrigerator.
The X700 also incorporates Huawei's ADS 5 driver assistance system, which includes a version of NCA (navigation-guided assisted driving) tailored for off-road use, allowing assisted driving on unpaved rural roads. The system uses a 896-line lidar and supports features like parking assistance and long-distance reverse tracking.
With its combination of family-friendly features and serious off-road hardware, the Mengshi X700 enters a growing segment of electric SUVs that aim to do double duty. The pre-sale phase is now open, with deliveries expected to follow.
