Mengshi, the off-road vehicle brand under Dongfeng, has opened pre-sales for its X700, the first model in its X series co-designed with Huawei's Qiankun intelligent driving division. The five-seat, mid-to-large SUV is priced between 249,800 and 289,800 yuan (about $35,200 to $40,800) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives, according to NetEase Auto. Three trim levels are available.
The X700 targets families looking for light outdoor and all-terrain use, blending the brand's rugged heritage with luxury materials, smart cabin features and practical outdoor touches. It is the first Mengshi model to carry Huawei's full-stack intelligent technology, covering the cockpit, driver assistance and chassis.
Huawei-powered cabin and driver assistance
Inside, the X700 debuts HarmonySpace 6, Huawei's latest cockpit system, with dual 15.6-inch displays offering 2.5K resolution and 1,000-nit brightness. The cabin also introduces Xiaoyi, an AI agent that can handle navigation, vehicle controls and conversation in natural language, reducing the need for step-by-step voice commands. A 74-inch HUAWEI XHUD head-up display with augmented-reality navigation projects route guidance onto the road ahead.
For driver assistance, the X700 uses Huawei's ADS 5 system, which includes a 896-line lidar on the roof. It supports highway NOA (navigate-on-autopilot) and city NOA (advanced driver assistance for urban roads), plus memory parking and an off-road NCA (navigation cruise assist) mode that can detect low obstacles in dust or glare. The car also rides on Huawei's XMC digital chassis engine, which adjusts the suspension in real time.
Mengshi offers the X700 with two powertrain choices: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a range-extender (EREV) version. The PHEV uses a 1.5-litre turbo engine producing 113 kW (about 152 hp) and an 800-volt electrical architecture, with battery options of 51.46 kWh and 68.10 kWh, delivering CLTC electric-only ranges of 228 km and 285 km respectively. The EREV pairs a 95 kW (about 127 hp) 1.5-litre engine with a 51.46 kWh battery, offering CLTC ranges of 228 km or 244 km depending on configuration. Note that CLTC figures tend to be about 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so real-world ranges will likely be shorter.
Built for light off-road use
The X700 uses a unibody construction rather than a body-on-frame layout, which Mengshi says improves ride comfort and cabin quietness while retaining off-road capability. It features dual-chamber air suspension with 150 mm of travel, a maximum ground clearance of 328.8 mm, approach and departure angles of 37.5 and 38.3 degrees, and a wading depth of 800 mm.
The exterior follows a boxy design with rounded edges, a 'lion's roar' grille, and a full-width light bar. A customizable rear display allows owners to show messages or graphics. Six paint colours are available, named after Chinese landscapes such as Linzhi Blue and Ulan Orange.
Inside, the cabin includes dual zero-gravity front seats that recline up to 127 degrees, a 2.77-cubic-metre flat space when the second row is folded, and a 850-litre boot that can hold up to ten 20-inch suitcases. There are 56 storage compartments and 26 mounting points for accessories, plus a 220-volt outlet and a 7-litre cooler that can chill to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
Mengshi has not yet announced when deliveries will begin. The X700 is the first result of the partnership between Mengshi and Huawei, which also supplies smart systems to other Chinese automakers such as Aito and Avatr.
