Luxeed, the electric-vehicle brand jointly backed by Huawei and Chery, launched its RX midsize coupe SUV in China on September 28. The model, which starts at 259,800 yuan (about $36,600) and tops out at 389,800 yuan (about $54,900), is positioned as a sporty five-seater built on an 800-volt architecture, according to NetEase Auto.
The RX is available in six trim levels, with single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive options. Battery choices are an 81 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack and a 100 kWh ternary lithium pack, delivering a maximum CLTC range of 852 km (about 724 km WLTP est.) (about 530 miles). The top Ultra trim carries four lidar units - one forward-facing 896-line image-grade sensor, two side solid-state units and one rear solid-state unit - plus 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars and five millimeter-wave radars, for a total of 38 sensors. Luxeed says the architecture supports L3 autonomous driving, though the system currently offers highway and urban navigation assist, automated parking and all-around collision prevention.
Design and interior
The RX was styled by Werner Gruber, a former Ferrari designer who worked on the LaFerrari and FXX-K. It features L-shaped headlights with 90 LED elements per lamp, a coupe-like roofline and a 1:2 wheel-to-body ratio. The car measures 5,020 mm long, 2,007 mm wide and 1,585 mm tall, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It rides on 20- to 22-inch wheels with a staggered 255 mm front and 275 mm rear tire setup.
Inside, the RX has a 16.1-inch tilting center screen, a digital instrument cluster, an 8.88-inch passenger display and a 26-inch head-up display. A steering-wheel Boost button temporarily raises torque by 10 percent while tightening the seat belts and side bolsters, and switches the displays to a dedicated mode. The seats contain 98 sensors and 27 air bladders that adjust support based on driving conditions and occupant posture. Cargo volume is 622 liters, with an additional 30 liters of hidden storage.
Powertrain and suspension
The rear-drive version's motor produces 277 kW (about 372 hp), while the all-wheel-drive version adds a 160 kW front motor for a combined output of 437 kW (about 586 hp). Suspension tuning was handled by Tobias Moers, former AMG boss, with a front virtual kingpin double-wishbone and rear five-link setup. The Ultra trim adds dual-chamber air suspension and dual-valve continuously variable damping, available as a 10,000-yuan (about $1,400) option on the Max trim.
Luxeed is offering launch incentives worth up to 40,500 yuan (about $5,700), including discounts on the ADS advanced driver assistance package and a 10,000-yuan trade-in bonus for existing HarmonyOS Smart Travel owners. The RX is the second model from Luxeed, following the S sedan, and competes with other Huawei-backed vehicles such as the Aito M7 and the Avatr 11.
