Huawei and Seres sign new five-year deal to upgrade Aito brand

Huawei and Seres have signed a new five-year strategic cooperation agreement to jointly upgrade the Aito business, aiming to strengthen the premium smart EV brand as it surpasses 1.2 million users.

Huawei and Seres have signed a new five-year strategic cooperation agreement to jointly upgrade their Aito (Wenjie) electric-vehicle business, according to a statement released on October 1 by Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) and Aito. The signing ceremony took place in Shenzhen on September 30, attended by Huawei's Richard Yu, chairman of the consumer business group, and Seres chairman Zhang Xinghai.

The partnership, described as a "strategic upgrade" for the Aito business, will see both companies anchor the brand's positioning as a premium smart EV marque. They plan to form a dedicated team for Aito operations, with a focus on exclusive sales and service channels to better serve customers. The goal, the statement said, is to push the Aito brand further upmarket and establish it as a benchmark for China's new-luxury intelligent vehicles.

According to PCauto, the Chinese automotive media outlet, Aito has now surpassed 1.2 million users, marking a new phase in the brand's growth. The announcement comes as Huawei deepens its role in the auto industry through HIMA, which also includes partnerships with other automakers such as Chery and BAIC.

Deepening ties

The new agreement extends the existing collaboration between Huawei and Seres, which began in 2021. Aito models, including the M5, M7, and M9, are built by Seres and feature Huawei's smart cockpit and driver-assistance systems. The brand has become one of China's fastest-growing premium EV lines, competing with the likes of Li Auto and Nio.

The companies said the renewed partnership aims to deliver "more extreme" high-end smart EVs and better travel experiences, while contributing to the high-quality development of China's auto industry. No specific financial terms or new model plans were disclosed in the announcement.

The news follows a period of rapid expansion for Aito, which has seen strong sales of its range-extender and battery-electric models. The brand's success is seen as a key test of Huawei's "inside" model, where the tech giant supplies software, hardware, and design expertise to automakers.
