Hongqi has opened presale of its TianGong 07, a mid-size battery-electric (BEV) sedan that aims to cover the full range of family-car scenarios rather than chase a single headline spec, according to Chinese EV outlet DianDongBang.
The car is priced at 169,900 to 199,900 yuan (about $23,900 to $28,200) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives. Trade-in customers get a 10,000 yuan subsidy, with an extra 10,000 yuan for existing FAW owners, and financing starts at zero down payment with two-year zero-interest or five-year low-interest plans worth 8,500 yuan in interest subsidies.
First 8397 chip in the segment
TianGong 07 is the first model in the 200,000 yuan class to use Qualcomm's 8397 cockpit chip, built on a 4nm process. DianDongBang says its AI computing power is 14 times that of the older 8295 chip, enabling on-device large language models that keep voice commands responsive in garages, tunnels and mountain areas without a signal, with response times under 200 milliseconds.
The cockpit recognises nine Chinese dialects and supports 60-second continuous conversation. A crystal rotary knob on the centre console handles volume, temperature and drive mode by feel, and the car can turn a household tablet into a passenger or rear screen via an app, avoiding the need to buy dedicated hardware.
On the driver-assistance side, TianGong 07 debuts Hongqi's first 384-line variable-focus lidar with the JIMU 2.0 system from ZhuoYu, claimed to detect objects up to 600 metres away with 0.05-degree angular resolution. The variable-focus design widens the field of view in city traffic and extends it on highways, with lidar backing up cameras in rain, fog and tunnels. The system uses a lidar-plus-vision early fusion approach and includes localised features such as three-point turns, waiting-zone passage, ETC toll-gate handling and parking-memory from space to space.
Hongqi also debuts an automatic emergency steering (AES) function that can detect obstacles from 220 metres and brake smoothly from 120 km/h for stationary targets. The car passed extreme test scenarios including tunnel rollovers, nighttime roadblocks and construction detours, and will be shown in a live assisted-driving challenge on mountain roads at Bayanbulak on October 12.
Safety, space and charging
The TianGong 07 uses a 9H4M cage body with 74% high-strength steel and 2,000 MPa steel in key load paths, with a roof that can withstand 9 tonnes of pressure. Its Xuanjia battery, shared with the TianGong 08, survives 310 hours submerged in one metre of water, resists 350 joules of bottom impact and passes 200 kN crush tests without fire or explosion.
The cabin is claimed to be formaldehyde-free and odour-free at maternity and infant level, with VOC emissions at one-third of Chinese national limits and an antibacterial rate above 99%. The interior follows EU REACH and POPs standards covering more than 380 substances, and the car is among the first to use domestic commercial encryption algorithms with seven-layer defence from chip to cloud.
At 5,000 mm long with a 3,000 mm wheelbase, the car offers an 85.1% space efficiency ratio. Front and rear rows provide generous legroom, with 20 mm slow-rebound foam in seats, 16-way powered adjustment for the front passenger, and a 1.9-metre flat bed when the headrest is removed. There are 33 storage compartments, eight phone slots and a 4.58-litre hidden storage box.
The car rides on an 800V platform with silicon-carbide drive units, charging from 10% to 80% in under 12 minutes, and supports both GB2015+ and Greater Bay Area fast-charging protocols for compatibility with public chargers. An anti-motion-sickness mode is claimed to cut queasiness by 50%, and the all-wheel-drive version adds a magic-carpet suspension with road preview from 20 metres, reducing impact by 27%.
Braking from 100 km/h takes 33.6 metres, with an ETCS anti-slip strategy that reduces wheel slip on ice and snow by 28%. Four exterior colours - moso green, cloud white, polar night black and crescent grey - keep a low-saturation look, with star-cut headlights and a full-width rear light bar.
DianDongBang notes that TianGong 07 competes in a crowded 200,000 yuan BEV sedan segment but differentiates by balancing intelligence, safety, space and charging rather than chasing a single record. The final verdict will depend on the presale price and the October live assisted-driving test, but for young families shopping in this segment, the car deserves a place on the comparison list.
