Hongqi opens pre-sales for G919 four-motor luxury off-road SUV from 359,800 yuan

Hongqi has opened pre-sales for its G919, a four-motor luxury off-road SUV priced between 359,800 and 439,800 yuan (about $50,700-$61,900), featuring a 620kW quad-motor setup, a 280km CLTC electric-only range, and a 1350km combined range.

Hongqi has opened pre-sales for the G919, a four-motor luxury off-road SUV that the brand says carries on its military-vehicle heritage, with prices starting at 359,800 yuan (about $50,700) and reaching 439,800 yuan (about $61,900) for the range-topping limited edition, according to Chinese outlet D1EV. The model is offered in three trims: a four-motor Tuojing edition, a four-motor Yujing edition, and a limited edition.

The G919 is built on Hongqi's Honghu off-road platform and is powered by what the company calls a million-yuan-class vector-controlled quad-motor system, with each wheel's torque and speed independently controllable. Total system output is 620kW (about 831hp) with 1,320Nm of combined torque, and wheel-end torque reaches 18,500Nm, equivalent to a 3.0-litre engine per wheel, Hongqi says. The SUV accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds and can climb and descend 100% grades.

Powertrain and range

The G919 pairs the electric motors with a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine with 48.83% thermal efficiency and a 62.9kWh ternary lithium battery. CLTC electric-only range is 280km, which in real-world terms is roughly equivalent to 224-238km under the WLTP cycle (est.), and combined range reaches 1,350km. The vehicle rides on an 800V silicon-carbide platform and can charge from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes, Hongqi claims.

Hongqi says the G919 is the first production vehicle to feature four-motor unlimited steering, a system it calls "Qixuan MAX," which allows variable turning radius and enables a U-turn across two lanes in one manoeuvre. The SUV also has three locks - front and rear mechanical locks plus an energy centre lock - with a load capacity of 12,600Nm and a locking time of 0.2 seconds.

Safety redundancy is a key selling point. The G919 uses a tri-sensor perception architecture combining visible light, lidar, and night vision, and Hongqi says the vector motors can lock a punctured wheel within 180 milliseconds, keeping the vehicle controllable at speeds up to 180km/h. The battery pack, which uses cylindrical cells for the first time in a hardcore off-road vehicle, passed the industry's first multi-needle puncture test on a ternary lithium battery without catching fire or exploding, the company says.

Interior and technology

Inside, the G919 features dual 17.3-inch 3K screens front and rear, an 18-speaker Dynaudio sound system with Dolby Atmos, and seats that recline up to 131 degrees in the second row. The cabin includes a 7.3-litre compressor fridge with a temperature range from -6°C to 50°C, 6kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharge, and 41 storage compartments. The luggage area offers 950 litres of space, expanding to 2,120 litres with the rear seats folded.

The G919 debuts Hongqi's Lingxi cockpit 5.0+, powered by a Qualcomm 8296P 5nm chip, and integrates both Doubao and Qwen large language models for voice control of more than 700 vehicle functions. The driving assistance system, called Sinan 5.0 Max, uses a Qualcomm 8650 chip and combines visible light, lidar, and night vision sensors. Hongqi says the variable-focus digital lidar activates automatically in urban areas at 120km/h.

Hongqi says the G919 was developed over three years by 3,549 engineers, with testing across China's extreme climates, from -43°C in Mohe to nearly 70°C surface temperatures in Turpan, and at altitudes up to 5,830 metres. The company positions the model as a response to real off-road conditions, with 20-plus factory-prepared modification points and a body-on-frame construction with over 90% high-strength steel.
