Hongqi, the luxury arm of Chinese automaker FAW, has opened pre-sales for its new G919, a four-motor hardcore off-road SUV that blends Chinese design cues with a range-extender (EREV) powertrain. According to NetEase Auto, the model is available in three trims priced between 359,800 and 439,800 yuan (about $50,700 to $61,900) as Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
The G919 is built on FAW's Honghu off-road platform and uses a body-on-frame construction, a design choice that Hongqi says draws on the company's decades of military vehicle expertise. The SUV measures 5,135 mm long, 2,050 mm wide and 1,950 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. It comes with wide fenders, factory all-terrain tires and a side-hinged tailgate, with an optional external storage pack.
Powertrain and off-road hardware
Under the hood, the G919 pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged range extender with four electric motors, delivering a combined system output of 620 kW (about 831 hp) and 1,320 Nm of torque. Wheel-end torque reaches 18,500 Nm, and the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The battery is a 62.9 kWh large cylindrical lithium-ion pack supplied by EVE Energy, providing a CLTC electric-only range of 280 km. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so an equivalent WLTP range would be roughly 224-238 km (est.). With an 80-liter fuel tank, the combined range is 1,350 km, and the vehicle runs on regular 92-octane gasoline.
The G919 features a high-strength ladder frame with more than 90% high-strength or ultra-high-strength steel, giving a torsional stiffness of 9,500 Nm per degree. It comes with front, center and rear differential locks, closed dual-chamber air suspension and CDC dampers, offering five ride-height settings. Maximum wading depth is 900 mm, with approach and departure angles of 30 and 32 degrees respectively. Ten all-terrain driving modes cover sand, mud and mountain scenarios.
The vector four-motor system allows millisecond-level independent torque control on each wheel, enabling a crab-walk-like steering function and a minimum turning radius of just 2.5 meters. The SUV also rides on an 800-volt silicon carbide platform, supporting fast charging that replenishes the battery from 30% to 80% in 12 minutes.
Smart cabin and driver assistance
Inside, the G919 is equipped with the Sinan ADAS 5.0 Max system, which includes a long-range lidar, infrared night vision and a 540-degree transparent chassis view, enabling full-scenario assisted driving. The cabin runs the Lingxi 5.0 infotainment system on a 5 nm automotive-grade chip, supporting voice control for more than 700 functions. The interior features a three-screen layout with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch central touchscreen and a 17.3-inch rear ceiling screen, paired with an 18-speaker Dynaudio sound system with 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos.
Hongqi is positioning the G919 as a premium entry in the growing Chinese market for hardcore off-road electric SUVs, competing in the 350,000 to 440,000 yuan segment. The limited edition trim is expected to open for orders by the end of 2026, according to NetEase Auto.
