HiRain's smart power distribution unit wins new contract for premium EV

HiRain's intelligent power distribution unit (EFU) has won another production contract for a premium new-energy vehicle, after reaching 400,000 units delivered since 2024.

HiRain, a Chinese automotive electronics supplier, has secured a new production contract for its intelligent power distribution unit (E-Fuse Unit, EFU) to be fitted on a premium new-energy vehicle, according to Gasgoo. The company did not identify the automaker or the vehicle model.

Technology highlights

The EFU integrates grid isolation, intelligent power distribution and voltage conversion. Its isolator can split the low-voltage grid into redundant A/B networks, disconnecting in microseconds if one side fails, with functional safety up to ASIL B or ASIL D and overcurrent capability of 200A. The unit replaces traditional fuses with E-Fuse semiconductor devices, offering ground short-circuit protection, I²t protection, over-temperature protection and high-precision current detection. Protection thresholds are programmable and the unit auto-recovers after fault clearance, covering distribution needs from 0.5A to 150A with ASIL B functional safety.

For the high-power low-voltage demands of advanced driver assistance systems, the unit offers a 48V/12V DC-DC solution with power ranging from 500W to 3600W and conversion efficiency up to 98%. This addresses the coexistence of 12V and 48V loads during the transition period. HiRain has developed a platform-based series of 12V and 48V smart power distribution units, with the 12V version supporting dual input and integrated isolator, and the 48V version featuring built-in 48V/12V DC-DC, allowing cross-platform reuse and shorter adaptation cycles.

Market context

The product has been in mass production since 2024, with cumulative deliveries reaching 400,000 units. This new contract marks another milestone for HiRain in the premium EV segment, where the shift to higher-voltage architectures is accelerating.
