GWM launches two Tank PLus variants from 177,800 yuan, targeting boxy-SUV buyers

Great Wall Motor's Tank brand has expanded its PLus family with two new variants - the Lihun Edition and Hi4 255 Ultra - priced from 177,800 yuan (about $25,000) after limited-time discounts, offering factory-customised styling and long-range plug-in hybrid options.

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has expanded its Tank PLus family with two new variants, the Tank PLus Lihun Edition and the Tank PLus Hi4 255 Ultra, both launched on September 23. The Lihun Edition carries a limited-time discounted price of 184,800 yuan (about $26,000), while the Hi4 255 Ultra starts at 177,800 yuan (about $25,000). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives, according to EV media outlet 电动邦 (DianDongBang).

Factory-customised styling for younger buyers

The Lihun Edition targets younger consumers who want the distinctive boxy SUV look without the legal headaches of aftermarket modifications. It comes from the factory with a full set of practical equipment, including round headlights, a star-arch hood ornament cover and a cold-silver front bumper. Two exclusive paint options - blazing orange and flame shadow black - are available, along with a dedicated Lihun badge. GWM stresses that the vehicle is fully compliant for registration and road use, eliminating the risks of unofficial modifications.

Both variants feature GWM's Hi4 electric four-wheel-drive system, combined with a rear electric mechanical dog-clutch differential lock, all-terrain tyres and a crawl mode for rough roads. The second-generation Hi4 intelligent hybrid system incorporates 28 fuel-saving technologies, balancing low fuel consumption when the battery is depleted with long driving range. The Lihun Edition also gets a dedicated drive mode for stronger power response during highway driving and overtaking.

On the intelligent driving front, the Coffee Pilot 3 assistance system supports highway and city NOA (navigate on autopilot), as well as parking space-to-parking space assisted driving. It includes memory parking, remote parking and track reversing functions. The cabin offers over 70 percent usable space with 45 storage compartments, wireless charging on the passenger door panel and a rear-seat small table. Front seats feature massage and a passenger leg rest, while front and rear seats have ventilation and heating, plus a smart refrigerator.

Long-range plug-in hybrid for families

The Hi4 255 Ultra is positioned for family buyers seeking long electric range and generous space. It delivers a CLTC-rated pure-electric range of 255 km - roughly 204-217 km under the more conservative WLTP cycle (est.) - which should cover most daily commutes without using fuel. The rear seats are spacious and the boot is large enough for family trips and camping gear, with features like seat ventilation, heating and massage, a refrigerator and 220V external power output.

Both models come with a package of purchase benefits valid for orders placed and invoices issued before October 31, 2026. These include a 12,000 yuan cash subsidy for trade-ins, financing options with up to 60,000 yuan at zero interest for 24 months or a five-year loan with zero interest for the first two years, lifetime warranty on the three-electric system for first owners, free basic and smart control services plus three years of entertainment data, and a free charging pile with basic installation within two years of purchase. Buyers of the Hi4 255 Ultra can also opt for a free upgrade to a 4,000-yuan matte grey custom paint finish.

The launch of the two Tank PLus variants marks an effort by GWM to cover both ends of the boxy SUV market: the Lihun Edition appeals to style-conscious individuals who want factory-approved customisation, while the Hi4 255 Ultra targets families prioritising range and practicality. With these moves, the Tank brand aims to strengthen its position in China's growing market for square-shaped new-energy SUVs.
