Great Wall Motor (GWM) has introduced two new variants of its Menglong Plus SUV in China, according to NetEase Auto. The Menglong Plus Lihun version and the Menglong Plus Hi4 255 Ultra went on sale on September 23, with official guide prices of 196,800 yuan (about $27,700) and 189,800 yuan (about $26,700) respectively. A limited-time promotional price brings the Lihun down to 184,800 yuan (about $26,000) and the Hi4 255 Ultra to 177,800 yuan (about $25,000). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
Factory-modified off-road styling
The Lihun is the second model in GWM's official "Lihun" modification series and is positioned as a factory-modified boxy SUV. Its key selling point is that it comes with compliant off-road equipment from the factory, meaning buyers can register the vehicle directly without additional modifications or approval. The variant keeps the Menglong Plus's signature square body shape but adds a new H-shaped grille with a HAVAL badge, round headlights framed in square housings, and a cold-silver front bumper trim.
Two new exterior colors are offered: a two-tone Blazing Orange and Flame Shadow Black, with blacked-out wheels, fenders, side skirts and roof rails. The Lihun rides on 18-inch all-terrain tires and retains the rear-mounted spare wheel, also an AT tire. Dimensions are unchanged at 4,912 mm long, 1,950 mm wide and 1,905 mm tall, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase.
Inside, the Lihun adds orange contrast stitching, ventilated and heated seats front and rear, eight-point massage for the front seats, and a compressor fridge in the center console that can hold temperatures from -6°C to 50°C. A 15.6-inch central display, headrest speakers, four-zone voice control and a wireless charging pad on the passenger door panel round out the cabin equipment.
Hybrid powertrain and range
Both new variants use GWM's second-generation Hi4 intelligent all-wheel-drive hybrid system. The Lihun adds an electronically controlled mechanical locking rear differential and offers a 25-degree approach angle, 32-degree departure angle, 221 mm ground clearance and 580 mm wading depth. It also includes creep mode and a tank-turn style steering assist function, plus a dedicated Lihun driving mode calibrated for rough terrain.
The Menglong Plus Lihun carries a 44.7 kWh battery pack, giving a CLTC pure-electric range of 255 km. Under the more conservative WLTP cycle, that would equate to roughly 204-217 km (est.). Combined WLTC range exceeds 1,000 km. The Hi4 255 Ultra variant shares the same battery and range figure but drops the advanced driver assistance to a basic L2 system, targeting families that prioritize range, space and value.
On the technology front, the Lihun uses an end-to-end assisted driving model that supports highway and city NOA (urban advanced driver assistance) plus parking-to-parking navigation, with memory parking, remote parking and reverse tracking features. GWM is offering purchase incentives until October 31, 2026, including a 12,000 yuan cash subsidy, up to 60,000 yuan in zero-interest financing over 24 months, lifetime warranty on the battery, motor and electronic control for first owners, and a free charging pile installation within two years.
