General Motors reported third-quarter deliveries of more than 358,000 vehicles in China, with new-energy models—including battery-electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and range-extender (EREV) variants—making up over 60% of total sales, a record for the period, according to PCauto.
The company credited a steady stream of new models and strong performance of core nameplates for the growth, which it said is helping complete its electrified product lineup across segments. GM's senior vice president and president of China and Asia-Pacific, Xu Luo, said the team continues to iterate products around Chinese consumer needs, and that an improving product mix is building momentum for profitable growth in key segments.
Buick and Cadillac lead the push
Buick's premium electric sub-brand Zhijing expanded with the launch of the Zhijing L7 BEV sedan and an updated Zhijing E7 PHEV midsize SUV, which now offers new interior and exterior colors, ultra-fast charging, and advanced driver assistance. The E7 sold over 13,000 units in Q3, making it a volume model for the brand.
In the premium MPV segment, the GL8 family maintained its lead, with sales exceeding 22,000 units in Q3, covering PHEV and BEV versions. In August, the GL8 marked 26 years on the market, with cumulative sales surpassing 2.2 million units.
Cadillac's electrification push continued with the September launch of the XT5 PHEV, developed specifically for China. It is the first luxury hybrid SUV to ship with Momenta's R7 world model for advanced driver assistance. The new model helped the XT5 line deliver over 9,000 units in Q3, keeping it among the brand's top sellers.
Wuling drives volume in mass market
Wuling saw strong demand across its lineup. In the three-row six-seat SUV segment, the Wuling Starlight L PHEV, launched in July, sold nearly 19,000 units in Q3, while the Huajing S followed closely with about 22,000 units. In the small EV segment, the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV family delivered over 34,000 units in Q3, maintaining its position as a global leader in micro EVs. The Bingo family sold more than 57,000 units, with the Bingo Pro—upgraded in space, range, and features—contributing nearly 40,000 units in the quarter.
GM said its electrification transition in China is entering a phase of tangible results, with products across price points and positioning forming a cohesive market coverage.
