Geely's fourth-generation Boyue L to launch Sept 24 with hybrid and petrol versions

Geely will launch the fourth-generation Boyue L in China on Sept 24, offering both petrol and i-HEV hybrid versions, with prices expected to start around 100,000 yuan for petrol and 120,000 yuan for hybrid.

Geely has confirmed that the fourth-generation Boyue L will go on sale in China on Sept 24 at a launch event in Yuncheng, Shanxi province. The new model line-up will include both petrol and i-HEV hybrid versions, marking a significant update to one of the country's best-selling compact SUVs, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang).

The Boyue nameplate has been on sale since 2016, and the Boyue L has held the top spot in China's A-segment petrol SUV market for 14 consecutive months, also claiming the petrol SUV sales crown for the first eight months of this year. Geely says the model has accumulated more than 2.45 million users worldwide.

Powertrain upgrades

The i-HEV version uses Geely's third-generation hybrid technology, which the company says is "electric-driven, oil-electric collaborative." It achieves a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 4.67 L/100km, a thermal efficiency of 47.26%, and a combined range of over 1,200 km on a full tank and full charge. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 7.7 seconds, and 0-30 km/h takes 1.84 seconds.

The petrol version gets a new 1.5TD Pro high-output engine with 148 kW (198 hp) and 315 N·m of torque, up 15 kW and 25 N·m over the previous model. Its WLTC combined fuel consumption is 6.69 L/100km.

Geely says the new Boyue L also introduces 25 class-exclusive features and more than 200 functional upgrades, including the Qianli Haohan H5 driver assistance system, which is said to include lidar. The company frames the update around five "champion" pillars: efficiency, performance, intelligence, quality, and safety.

Pricing expectations

Official prices have not been announced, but 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang) reports that the petrol version is expected to start at around 100,000 yuan (about $14,100), roughly 4,000-5,000 yuan higher than the current model. The i-HEV version is expected to start above 120,000 yuan (about $16,900), with the main selling models likely priced under 150,000 yuan (about $21,100). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.

The price increase reflects the added technology and features, according to the report. The final pricing and full specifications will be revealed at the Sept 24 launch event.
