Geely has unveiled the fourth-generation Boyue L, a compact SUV that marks a decade of the Boyue family in China. The new model, which starts at a limited-time launch price of 92,900 yuan (about $13,100), is available with either a petrol engine or a new iHEV hybrid system. The car is positioned in the fiercely competitive 100,000-yuan (about $14,100) family SUV segment, according to NetEase Auto.
Powertrain and efficiency
The Boyue L offers two powertrain options. The iHEV hybrid uses what Geely calls its third-generation oil-electric hybrid technology, paired with the Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 system, which intelligently adjusts power output. The hybrid achieves a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 4.67 litres per 100 km and a combined range of over 1,200 km on a full tank and charge. The petrol version is powered by a new 1.5TD Pro high-output engine, delivering 148 kW (about 198 hp) and 315 Nm of torque, mated to Geely's CMA architecture. Some trims come with CCD variable-damping suspension for improved ride comfort.
Smart features and cabin
The most significant upgrade is in the technology department. High-spec variants are among the first in their class to feature a lidar sensor, enabling the Qianli H5 advanced driver assistance system. With 27 perception sensors, the system supports nationwide navigation-assisted driving, designed to handle complex Chinese road conditions such as sudden pedestrian crossings and low-light nighttime driving. The cabin runs Flyme Auto 2.5, integrated with the Xingrui AI large model for natural voice interaction, and features a 16-speaker Flyme Sound audio system with laminated glass for noise insulation.
In terms of space, the Boyue L offers a class-leading 84.27 percent cabin space efficiency, with 650 litres of boot space plus 67 litres of hidden storage. The driver's seat is a zero-gravity design, and all seats are heated, with a passenger leg rest on higher trims. Safety is covered by 32 active and 8 passive systems, along with various health-oriented features.
The design follows Geely's "mountain and river" aesthetic, with a sharp body and a full-width light bar. The interior adopts a modern, home-like style, with both hardware and software upgrades.
Despite the industry's shift towards new energy vehicles, many Chinese buyers still prefer traditional fuel vehicles for their convenience and lack of range anxiety. The new Boyue L, with its mix of hybrid technology, lidar ADAS, AI cockpit, and CMA chassis, aims to offer a "fuel SUV built to new energy standards" at an accessible price. According to NetEase Auto, this launch could shake up the 100,000-yuan SUV market.
