Geely Auto Group unveiled its next-generation AI-powered charging technology, called "Geely Smart Charging," at an event on September 23, according to NetEase Auto. The system marks a shift from simply pursuing higher charging speeds to using artificial intelligence to manage the entire charging process, addressing safety, battery health, and convenience.
AI-driven charging brain
At the heart of the system is the "Xingrui PowerMind," an energy large model developed with Chinese AI company StepFun. Unlike conventional chargers that follow a fixed power curve, PowerMind integrates real-time data on driving scenarios, charging habits, battery health, station traffic, and external conditions to calculate the optimal charging strategy for each individual battery at that moment.
This enables three industry-first features: AI extreme fast charging, AI smart charging, and AI automatic charging. The system also includes an AI temperature control that predicts battery temperature changes 30 seconds in advance, adjusting power and cooling to keep temperatures below 65°C. In tests by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), a Lynk & Co 10 charged from 10% to 97% with peak power of 1093 kW, maintaining temperatures below 55°C for 57% of the time and never exceeding 64°C.
Record power and new battery tech
The charging pile achieves a peak power of 2250 kW (2.2 MW) per gun, with a "dual-1500" design (1500V and 1500A) that can deliver megawatt-level output through dual guns. This is supported by the new Shield Gold Brick ultra-short blade battery series, which reduces cell length from 580 mm to 395 mm and 370 mm. The 395 mm variant offers a 12C charge rate, the highest for mass-produced LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, enabling a 10%-70% charge in 4 minutes 30 seconds in real-world tests on the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001. The 370 mm variant, with a 6C rate, debuts in the new Geely Galaxy E5, charging from 10% to 70% in 8 minutes 25 seconds.
The system also includes a lithium-ion pulse repair technology that applies micro-pulses at the end of charging to reverse battery degradation, improving cycle life by over 20%. This technology won a first prize from the China Society of Automotive Engineers in 2025. Geely has upgraded the battery warranty for all smart-charging models from 8 years/150,000 km to 8 years/200,000 km.
Automatic charging and network expansion
Geely also introduced AI automatic charging, which uses robots to plug in and charge the vehicle automatically when the battery drops below a set level, preferring off-peak overnight rates. Two home products are planned: a 20 kW home charging robot with monocular vision and AI recognition, and a 7 kW under-vehicle robot that uses vision and laser positioning to find the charging port even if the car is parked crookedly.
Geely's charging network, operated by Haoyuan Energy, has over 2,500 stations and 12,000 charging points across 232 cities, including over 1,500 ultra-fast stations. The company aims to have over 22,000 stations and 100,000 charging points by the end of 2027, covering all counties in China. The network will be densified along national highways and in urban areas, with a target of a charging station within 3 km in most cities.
To encourage adoption, Geely is offering 2,000 yuan (about $282) in charging credits over two years for new buyers of smart-charging models until January 1, 2028. The company emphasizes that its vertically integrated approach, from battery cells to charging piles and cloud AI, gives it full control over the charging experience, a capability difficult for competitors that outsource components.
