Geely September sales top 290,000 units, overseas exports pass 100,000 for fourth straight month

Geely Auto sold 292,168 vehicles in September, a record for the year, with overseas exports of 106,885 units marking the fourth consecutive month above 100,000 and a 162% year-on-year jump.

Geely Auto Group reported September sales of 292,168 vehicles, setting a new monthly record for 2026, according to Sina Auto. The result brings the automaker's cumulative deliveries for the first nine months of the year to 2,235,481 units.

The standout figure was overseas performance: exports reached 106,885 vehicles in September, up 162% year on year and the fourth consecutive month that monthly overseas shipments have exceeded 100,000 units. The sustained export run underscores Geely's push into markets beyond China as domestic competition intensifies.

Export momentum builds

Geely has been expanding its international footprint through a mix of wholly owned brands and partnerships, with models ranging from battery-electric (BEV) vehicles to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and range-extenders (EREVs). The company has targeted Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe as key growth regions, though the September release did not break down exports by destination.

The 162% year-on-year surge in exports comes as several Chinese automakers, including BYD, Chery and SAIC, report accelerating overseas deliveries. Geely's export growth has outpaced its domestic sales increase, suggesting the company is leaning on international markets to offset a crowded home market where price competition remains intense.

Domestic lineup holds steady

Geely's domestic sales in September were not disclosed separately in the announcement, but the overall total of 292,168 units includes its core Geely brand, the premium Zeekr marque and the Lynk & Co brand. The group has been refreshing its model lineup with new energy vehicles, including BEVs and PHEVs, to meet China's shifting consumer demand.

The company's year-to-date volume of 2,235,481 units puts it on track for a strong full-year performance, though it still trails BYD, which has consistently outsold all rivals in China's new-energy vehicle market. Geely's export milestone, however, gives it a differentiator: few Chinese automakers have sustained 100,000-plus monthly exports for four consecutive months.

Sina Auto noted that Geely's September figures include both passenger and commercial vehicles, and that the export tally covers all Geely Group brands. The company has not yet provided a breakdown by powertrain type for the month.

Geely's overseas push comes as Chinese EV makers face rising tariffs in some Western markets, including the European Union's additional duties on Chinese-made battery-electric vehicles. The company has responded by building local assembly operations in some regions, a strategy that could help it maintain growth despite trade barriers.

With four straight months of exports above 100,000 units, Geely appears to have established a new baseline for its international business. The question now is whether it can sustain the pace through the final quarter of the year and into 2027, as global competition in the EV segment intensifies.
