Geely has launched the fourth-generation Boyue L in China, offering both petrol and i-HEV (hybrid) powertrains. The petrol series starts at 92,900 yuan (about $13,100) and the i-HEV series at 99,900 yuan (about $14,100) as limited-time launch prices, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang). The new model, unveiled on September 24 at the Guanglue Tower in Yuncheng, Shanxi province, introduces over 200 upgrades across powertrain, intelligence, quality, and safety.
The Boyue nameplate has been a cornerstone of Geely's compact SUV lineup since 2016, with cumulative global sales exceeding 2.45 million units. The fourth-generation model arrives as the company seeks to keep petrol SUVs relevant amid rising new-energy vehicle penetration. The Boyue L has been the best-selling A-segment petrol SUV in China for 14 consecutive months, and ranked first in petrol SUV sales from January to August 2026, according to official data cited by 电动邦.
Two powertrains, one platform
The petrol series debuts a new 1.5TD Pro high-output engine, developed jointly with Volvo, producing 148 kW (about 198 hp) and 315 Nm of torque. It features VGT variable-geometry turbocharging and achieves a WLTC fuel consumption of 6.69 L/100 km. The i-HEV series uses Geely's Zhiqing hybrid system with a P1+P3 dual-motor architecture, an 11-in-1 integrated electric drive, and the Xingrui AI cloud powertrain 2.0. The hybrid-specific engine delivers 120 kW (about 161 hp) with a thermal efficiency of 47.26%, paired with a 175 kW drive motor. The system can operate in pure-electric mode for over 80% of driving conditions, with WLTC fuel consumption of 4.67 L/100 km and a combined range exceeding 1,200 km on a full tank and charge. In heavy city traffic, official real-world testing shows consumption as low as 3 L/100 km.
Both powertrains share the same chassis, intelligent cabin, and safety equipment, so buyers do not have to compromise on features when choosing between petrol and hybrid. The petrol version suits buyers who frequently drive long distances or have concerns about charging, while the i-HEV appeals to urban commuters seeking lower running costs and a smoother, quieter ride.
Lidar and city NOA at a 100,000-yuan price point
Intelligence is a major focus of the new Boyue L. It comes with the Qianli Haohan H5 driver-assistance package, which includes one lidar, three millimeter-wave radars, 11 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors – 27 sensors in total. This enables city NOA (advanced driver assistance), highway NOA, and cross-floor memory parking. The system uses an end-to-end architecture based on a world behavior model, capable of handling unprotected U-turns, roundabouts, and main-to-auxiliary road transitions. In highway scenarios, it supports automatic lane changes, overtaking, and ramp entry and exit. The lidar-equipped city NOA system is rare in petrol SUVs priced under 300,000 yuan (about $42,300), according to 电动邦.
Inside, the Boyue L features the Flyme Auto 2 intelligent cockpit with a 15.4-inch 2.5K central touchscreen and a 25.6-inch AR-HUD. The Xingrui AI large model enables emotional voice dialogue, complex intent-based vehicle control, and navigation trip planning. The system supports Apple CarPlay, Carlink, HUAWEI HiCar, and Flyme Link for broad smartphone compatibility.
Comfort and safety are also emphasized. Front seats offer electric adjustment, lumbar and leg support, massage, heating, ventilation, memory, welcome function, and headrest speakers. Rear seats include heating and privacy glass. The cabin has 90% leather wrapping, a heated steering wheel, and a crystal gear shifter. With a space efficiency of 84.27%, the rear seats fold flat to create a bed approximately 1.9 meters long. The car uses double-layer laminated glass and a 16-speaker FlymeSound system with 7.1.2 surround sound. The chassis is based on Geely's CMA architecture with CCD variable-damping suspension that responds in under 10 milliseconds, reducing body roll by 40% during cornering.
Safety features include the '32+8+N' system with 32 active safety functions, 8 passive safety features, and N respiratory protections. AEB can bring the car to a stop from speeds up to 130 km/h, with enhanced detection of vulnerable road users at night, plus a driver incapacitation assist. The body uses 1500 MPa hot-formed boron steel door rings and a clover-leaf energy-dissipation structure. The CN95 cabin filter blocks 99.9% of PM2.5 particles, and formaldehyde levels are one-tenth of the national standard threshold.
The launch price positioning is notable: both series start under 100,000 yuan, a sensitive price point in the compact SUV segment. By bringing hybrid pricing below that threshold, Geely lowers the barrier for buyers to try hybrid technology. The Boyue L faces intense competition from both petrol rivals and plug-in hybrid and range-extender models in the 100,000–150,000 yuan (about $14,100–$21,100) bracket. Its strategy is to offer premium features like lidar, city NOA, and variable-damping suspension at accessible prices, aiming to carve out a differentiated position. Purchase benefits valid until October 31, 2026, include deposit discounts, configuration upgrades, finance subsidies, trade-in allowances, free data, and lifetime free navigation assistance on the Qianli version. The fourth-generation Boyue L represents Geely's effort to strengthen its petrol SUV lineup while adapting to the changing market.
