Geely Galaxy E5 facelift launches from 97,800 yuan with rear-wheel drive and lidar

Geely's updated Galaxy E5 electric SUV starts at 97,800 yuan (about $13,800) in China, adding rear-wheel drive, a lidar-based ADAS, and 6C ultra-fast charging.

Geely has launched the updated Galaxy E5 electric SUV in China, with a limited-time starting price of 97,800 yuan (about $13,800). The model, positioned as a global AI-powered charging SUV, introduces a rear-wheel-drive layout, a lidar-based driver assistance system, and 6C ultra-fast charging capability, according to NetEase Auto.

New tech and charging

The Galaxy E5 is built on Geely's global technology architecture. It features a new 800V platform with custom short-blade cells, and the battery supports a peak charging rate of 6C, with maximum charging power of 460 kW. In normal temperatures, the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in 8 minutes and 25 seconds, a feature Geely says is enough for a week of commuting. The electric drive unit, called Thunder 16-in-1, delivers 245 kW (333 hp) and enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in about five seconds. The car's energy consumption is rated at 11.8 kWh per 100 km.

The battery pack meets 23 of the 24 new national safety standards, with Geely adding 12 extra proprietary tests. The pack has a cycle life of 3,500 cycles, equivalent to more than one million kilometres, according to the company.

ADAS and interior

The updated Galaxy E5 comes with Geely's Qianli Haohan H5 driver assistance system, which uses a lidar setup and 27 high-performance sensors. It supports both highway and city NOA (navigation on autopilot) and can handle 19 complex scenarios, including roundabouts, large vehicle avoidance, and U-turns. The system runs a one-piece end-to-end large model on the vehicle.

Inside, the SUV features a 15.4-inch 2.5K floating central touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, and a crystal rotary knob. The cabin includes the Flyme Auto 2 smart cockpit system, a head-up display, a 540-degree transparent chassis view, and a voice assistant called Eva that can display 60 expressions. The car also offers a 50W wireless phone charger, front seat heating and ventilation, a zero-gravity passenger seat, and dual-layer acoustic glass.

The Galaxy E5 measures 4,630 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,745 mm. The exterior adds cameras on the front fenders and a rear roof camera, while the tailgate features a full-width light bar and the Geely brand name in English.

All versions come with an enhanced rear five-link independent suspension, and the car achieves an 81 km/h moose test result, which Geely says is best-in-class. An optional CCD adaptive damping suspension adjusts to road conditions, softening over speed bumps and stiffening during high-speed cornering.

The launch includes several limited-time benefits, such as a 6,000 yuan purchase tax subsidy and a 4,000 yuan insurance subsidy for orders placed by October 31, 2026. Certain trims also receive free upgrades like the 23-speaker Flyme Sound system, the CCD suspension, and a blowout stability system. The base price is a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.
