GAC Trumpchi launched its new Yue 7 boxy SUV in China on September 22, offering four plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants priced from 161,800 yuan (about $22,800) to 207,800 yuan (about $29,300) after launch-period discounts. The model aims to bridge the gap between hardcore off-road capability and everyday family practicality, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang). The company said orders surpassed 16,815 units within 30 minutes of launch, with four-wheel-drive versions accounting for 88% of pre-sale orders and family buyers making up over 70%.
Powertrain and range
The Yue 7 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged PHEV system. The engine produces 125 kW, while two-wheel-drive versions use a single electric motor with 205 kW, achieving a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.49 seconds. Four-wheel-drive models add a second rear motor (220 kW), bringing combined system output to 425 kW and cutting the sprint time to 4.2 seconds.
Battery options include a 28.3 kWh pack for the base two-wheel-drive Pro, offering a CLTC electric range of 161 km, and a 45.975 kWh pack for higher trims, extending CLTC range to 261 km (two-wheel-drive Max) or 259 km (four-wheel-drive variants). For context, CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so real-world range is likely lower. Combined range on a full tank and charge reaches 1,252-1,352 km depending on the variant, with WLTC fuel consumption as low as 6.21 L/100 km. Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes about 15 minutes.
Off-road hardware and family-focused design
The Yue 7 features a boxy body with a 2,900 mm wheelbase and a length of 4,999 mm or 5,045 mm depending on trim. It uses a five-seat layout with a second-row electric slide rail (170 mm) and a trunk capacity of 745 liters, expandable to 1,860 liters with the rear seats folded, creating a nearly flat space about 1.9 meters long.
Off-road credentials include an integrated frame-in-body structure, front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension, and up to three locks (front and rear mechanical differential locks plus an electronic center lock) on high trims. The top Ultra variant adds closed double-chamber air springs and continuous damping control, offering a maximum ground clearance of 310 mm, approach and departure angles of 34.5 and 36.2 degrees, and a wading depth of 780 mm. A 9+X terrain mode system, low-speed crawl, hill descent control, and a tank-turn function are also available.
The interior features a 1.1-meter panoramic screen, a 15.6-inch central display, and the ADiGO 7.0 cockpit system. Comfort amenities include heated and ventilated seats, a 10-point massage function (on higher trims), dual-layer acoustic glass, and active noise cancellation.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the Yue 7 offers an optional one-button electric bed, roof tent, side awning, tailgate extension platform, and two 220V outlets for external power. It also includes 37 factory-mounted expansion points and reserved interfaces for a drone system.
On the technology front, the Yue 7 is equipped with ADiGO GSD 3.0, using 27 sensors including a 192-line lidar on high trims (detection range up to 280 meters) to support city and highway navigation assistance and full-scene parking. The body structure boasts a torsional rigidity of 38,000 N·m/degree, backed by a 500,000 km equivalent durability certification.
Launch benefits include up to 56,000 yuan in value, covering off-road packages (front lock, towing kit), comfort upgrades (20-speaker audio, massage seats, refrigerator), a charging pile, and a 30-day delivery promise. Warranty coverage includes 5 years or 150,000 km for the vehicle, lifetime coverage for the battery and electric drive, and lifetime warranty on the air springs for first owners of the Ultra trim.
