GAC Trumpchi officially launched its new Yue 7 plug-in hybrid SUV on September 22, with a promotional price range of 161,800 yuan to 207,800 yuan (about $22,800 to $29,300). The company said orders surpassed 16,815 units within 30 minutes of the launch, according to the Chinese outlet D1EV.
Positioned as a family-friendly off-roader
The Yue 7 is a boxy, hardcore-style SUV that GAC Trumpchi is pitching at families, with 88 percent of pre-sale orders for the four-wheel-drive version, over 70 percent from family buyers and nearly 30 percent from women. The vehicle features the company's self-developed Xingyuan plug-in hybrid system, mated to a 46 kWh battery from CATL, giving a CLTC-rated electric-only range of 261 km (162 miles). That CLTC figure is roughly 15-20 percent more optimistic than the WLTP standard, so the WLTP-equivalent range would be around 209-222 km (130-138 miles, est.).
On a full charge and tank, the Yue 7 claims a combined output that allows 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 4.2 seconds, with a WLTC-rated fuel consumption of 6.21 L/100 km when the battery is depleted. The SUV is equipped with front and rear mechanical differential locks plus a central energy lock, a configuration the company says matches 300,000-yuan-class premium off-roaders.
For driver assistance, the Yue 7 uses the ADiGO GSD 3.0 system with 27 sensors, including a 192-line LiDAR with a detection range of up to 280 meters (919 feet), and a one-stage end-to-end large model co-developed with WeRide. It also includes all-scenario parking assist. The vehicle features closed dual-chamber air suspension and SDC adaptive damping, with automatic ride-height and damper adjustment.
Lifestyle features and safety claims
GAC Trumpchi highlights several lifestyle-oriented features, including a one-touch electric bed conversion for camping, 37 original expansion interfaces for modifications, a pre-installed drone system, and two 220V power outlets. The company claims the Yue 7 passed a 500,000-km equivalent durability certification and a rollover test from a 46-meter (151-foot) slope with 11 rolls. The battery pack sits between integrated frame rails with a ground clearance of 391 mm (15.4 inches).
The launch also introduced a service ecosystem called "Qi Ye Tian Xia," covering professional training, customization, community operations and vehicle support, plus nine special services including first-year free emergency rescue. GAC Trumpchi has partnered with car rental company eHi to offer short- and long-term rentals of the Yue 7 in popular self-drive destinations such as Xinjiang and Chengdu.
The promotional price and benefits apply to orders placed through official channels from September 22 to October 7, 2024, with delivery by December 31, 2026. Benefits include up to 56,000 yuan (about $7,900) in combined value, covering items such as an off-road package, a camping bed and tailgate platform, lifetime warranty on the dual-chamber air suspension for the top trim, and a replacement guarantee if repair costs exceed 30 percent of the new car price within three years.
The Yue 7 is GAC Trumpchi's attempt to bridge the gap between city driving and off-road capability, a segment that has seen increasing competition in China as brands like BYD and Chery also push family-oriented off-roaders.
