GAC Aion has opened the pre-sale phase for its upcoming Ray7 electric sedan, with the first cars expected to arrive at dealerships around the Mid-Autumn Festival. The announcement came on September 21, the same day the interior design was publicly shown for the first time, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (DianDongBang).
Pre-sale perks and executive involvement
Customers who place a 299 yuan (about $42) deposit can access benefits valued at 8,999 yuan (about $1,267), and the first 100 buyers will also receive a drift course worth 999 yuan (about $141). The pre-sale campaign is designed to attract younger buyers with a more premium experience.
On the same day, Zhang Xiong, president of GAC's Aion business unit, and Yang Long, vice president, released videos confirming that the first Ray7 had rolled off the production line. Zhang personally participated in quality inspections and confirmed that all tests passed, while Yang revealed he had obtained a drift racing license and plans to establish an RC CLUB (RAY racing club) to provide a platform for driving enthusiasts. The executives' hands-on involvement adds to the buzz around the Ray7's launch.
Specs and availability
The Ray7 is positioned with what the company calls "four super highlights, all fully equipped as standard." These include a Huawei DriveONE electric drive system, a WeRide intelligent large model, a pure rear-wheel-drive chassis, and a high-design exterior. GAC Aion says it has chosen to offer the full package rather than incremental upgrades.
The two executives said the first Ray7 units will arrive at dealerships around the Mid-Autumn Festival, with test drives and test rides opening at the same time. Consumers interested in experiencing the Huawei e-drive, WeRide's AI model, and the rear-drive chassis can visit nearby stores during the holiday period.
The Ray7 is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) that will compete in China's crowded mid-size electric sedan segment. Pricing has not been announced yet, but the pre-sale deposit and benefits structure suggests a focus on value. GAC Aion has not disclosed the battery capacity or driving range for the Ray7 in this announcement.
With the pre-sale now open and showroom cars imminent, GAC Aion is betting on the Ray7's combination of advanced technology and driving engagement to win over buyers in a market where competition is intensifying.
