GAC Aion has launched a pre-order program for its upcoming Ray7 sporty sedan, according to NetEase Auto. Customers can reserve the car with a 299 yuan (about $42) deposit, which locks in benefits the company values at 8,999 yuan (about $1,267), including a 2,000 yuan discount on the purchase price, a co-branded limited-edition set with outdoor brand蕉下 (transliterated as Jiaoxia), and a free upgrade to a triple-layer silver-coated panoramic roof worth 4,999 yuan.
The Ray7 is positioned as a driver-focused performance sedan. GAC Aion executives said during an interview program that the car underwent extensive real-world testing, and the first unit off the line was personally inspected by the project lead. The company also announced it is forming an RC CLUB (Ray Racing Club) for owners interested in track driving, and will select 100 customers to receive a drifting experience course valued at 999 yuan.
Performance and technology
The interior features a driver-centric layout with integrated sports seats, a low seating position, and a one-touch zero-gravity mode with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The infotainment system runs on a 5nm Qualcomm 8295 chip with 24GB of LPDDR5 memory and 128GB of UFS 5.0 storage. The panoramic roof blocks 88% of solar energy and 99.99% of UV rays, according to the company.
Under the skin, the Ray7 uses a chip-level integrated drive and braking architecture, Huawei DriveONE multi-in-one e-motor, Huawei iTRACK intelligent torque control, and Huawei EMB full-wire electro-hydraulic braking. The platform features rear-wheel drive with a mixed aluminum front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension. The battery is supplied by CATL and integrates GAC Aion's own弹匣 (bullet-proof) battery 2.0 technology with a new thermal management system.
GAC Aion claims the Ray7 achieves a class-leading energy consumption of 9.7 kWh per 100 km under CLTC testing, with a CLTC range of 700 km. For context, CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard, so a WLTP estimate would be roughly 560-595 km (est.).
Smart driving
The Ray7 is equipped with 27 vehicle-grade sensors, including a 192-line lidar and three 4D millimeter-wave radars. It runs WeRide's L4-level end-to-end large model, which the company says can handle complex scenarios such as urban villages, narrow single-lane turns, and parking-lot-to-parking-lot navigation.
The car is expected to arrive at dealerships after the Mid-Autumn Festival. GAC Aion has not yet announced final pricing for the Ray7, which will be a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives when it is revealed.
