FAW-Volkswagen has opened pre-sales for its new ID.AURA T6, a midsize pure-electric SUV, with a starting price of 135,900 yuan (about $19,100) before taxes and incentives, according to Autohome. The model is positioned for the family-oriented battery-electric vehicle (BEV) segment, competing with the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sea Lion 06, Leapmotor C10, Zeekr 7X and Nio's Onvo L60.
Design and interior
The ID.AURA T6 features a closed front grille with a through-type light bar and the VW logo at the center. The hood is sculpted with multiple crease lines, and a trapezoidal lower intake adds a sporty touch. A lidar-equipped version adds perception hardware on the fenders and rear to enhance the vehicle's sensing suite.
Inside, the cabin adopts a wrap-around design with a two-tone color scheme, chrome accents and glossy trim. It includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, and a 25.8-inch AR head-up display. The infotainment system is powered by a 4nm cockpit chip with about 20 TOPS of computing power, plus a dedicated AI Agent module. It supports over-the-air updates, sentry mode, remote control, and smart entry, along with more than 23 mainstream apps and wireless Apple CarPlay, HiCar and Carlink connectivity.
Other highlights include 18 Dolby Atmos speakers and a passenger seat with massage function. The vehicle measures 4,811 mm long, 1,879 mm wide and 1,648 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,836 mm.
Powertrain and ADAS
The ID.AURA T6 is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 170 kW (about 228 hp). Buyers can choose between 59.9 kWh and 77.5 kWh battery packs, offering CLTC ranges of 540 km and 660 km respectively. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so the equivalent WLTP estimates would be around 460-540 km (est.) for the smaller pack and 560-660 km (est.) for the larger one.
The advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) is developed by CARIZON, a joint venture between Volkswagen Group and Horizon Robotics. It supports navigation-assisted driving on highways and in urban areas, as well as automated parking from finding a spot to multi-floor parking and narrow-space maneuvering. The vehicle is built on the new CEA electronic architecture, which uses a central-computing and zone-control layout.
FAW-Volkswagen plans to target the 180,000-250,000 yuan (about $25,400-$35,200) price band for family BEVs. The company aims to leverage its extensive sales and service network to attract buyers who prefer foreign brands but have limited budgets, potentially diverting demand from compact electric SUVs. This launch is part of a broader push by overseas brands to compete in China's booming midsize SUV market, where local players have been gaining ground rapidly.
