FAW-Volkswagen launches ID.AURA T6 electric SUV from 129,900 yuan

FAW-Volkswagen's new ID.AURA T6 electric SUV starts at 129,900 yuan (about $18,300), featuring a lidar-equipped ADAS, four-wheel disc brakes, and up to 660 km CLTC range.

FAW-Volkswagen has officially launched the ID.AURA T6, a new fully electric SUV developed specifically for the Chinese market, with prices starting at 129,900 yuan (about $18,300). The model is offered in four trims, ranging up to 169,900 yuan (about $23,900), according to Chinese outlet Kuaikeji via D1EV.

Localized tech and design

The ID.AURA T6 is built on Volkswagen's new CEA electrical architecture and marks a significant departure from previous ID models by replacing the rear drum brakes with four-wheel disc brakes as standard, paired with Bosch IPB 2.0 braking system. It also adopts a domestically developed high-level driver assistance system, making it a key part of Volkswagen's intelligent electrification push in China.

Exterior features include a full-width light bar and illuminated logo, with a 90-liter front trunk for extra storage. The SUV measures 4,811 mm long, 1,879 mm wide, and 1,648 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,836 mm, positioning it as a mid-size SUV. Six exterior colors are available: Cloud Sparrow Gray, First Snow White, Pearl White, Star River Blue, Distant Mountain Green, and Misty Purple.

Inside, the cabin sports a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, and a 25.8-inch AR head-up display. The infotainment system runs on a 4nm chip with about 20 TOPS of computing power and supports wireless Apple CarPlay, HiCar, and Carlink. Volkswagen claims this is its smoothest infotainment system to date. The front passenger seat offers 12-way electric adjustment, ten-point massage, heating, ventilation, and memory functions, and the front seats can fold flat to create a 1.8-meter rest area.

Performance and range

The ID.AURA T6 is equipped with 25 high-precision sensors, including 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, one forward millimeter-wave radar, and one 192-line lidar, powered by a Horizon Journey 6H chip delivering 420 TOPS. It supports full-scenario parking-to-parking urban NOA (city advanced driver assistance), highway NOA, and various parking assist functions, developed with local partner CARIZON.

Power comes from a new-generation nine-in-one electric drive system developed by Volkswagen, producing 170 kW (231 hp) and 345 Nm of torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 7.2 or 7.4 seconds depending on the variant. Two lithium iron phosphate battery options are offered: 59.9 kWh and 77.5 kWh, providing CLTC ranges of 540 km and 660 km respectively. Charging from 30% to 80% takes 22 to 24 minutes. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so the corresponding WLTP estimates would be around 459-486 km and 561-594 km (est.).

The ID.AURA T6 features a reinforced body with over 80% high-strength steel, including 29% hot-formed steel, and comes with six or seven airbags. The main-selling 660 Max lidar version is priced at 149,900 yuan (about $21,100), bringing a 4.8-meter-class lidar-equipped electric SUV from a joint venture brand to under 150,000 yuan. First owners receive lifetime warranty on the vehicle and three-electric system, plus free roadside assistance and coverage for battery degradation and certain accidents.
