Dongfeng Fengxing launches Xinghai V6 with Huawei ADAS from 99,900 yuan

Dongfeng Fengxing's new electric mid-size SUV, the Xinghai V6, starts at 99,900 yuan (about $14,100) and brings Huawei's Qiankun ADAS to the budget segment, targeting families needing flexible space.

Dongfeng Fengxing launched the all-electric mid-size SUV Xinghai V6 with Huawei's Qiankun intelligent driving system on September 19 in Liuzhou, according to PCauto. The new model is offered in three variants with a price range of 99,900 to 119,900 yuan (about $14,100 to $16,900), all prices being Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.

Bringing Huawei ADAS to the mainstream

The Xinghai V6 is notable for being one of the first models to offer Huawei's Qiankun ADAS in the 100,000-yuan price bracket. At a media roundtable after the launch, Dongfeng Fengxing executives explained the strategy: with the relaxation of family planning policies, demand for large family vehicles has grown, yet the penetration of advanced driver assistance in the mainstream 100,000-150,000 yuan segment remains low. The company spent two years developing the model to bring such technology to ordinary families.

Dongfeng Fengxing's brand director Chen Lai noted that the company is part of Dongfeng Group, which has a strategic cooperation with Huawei's Qiankun division, with other group brands like Voyah and Mengshi also collaborating. He described the partnership as a mutual choice, with Fengxing positioning itself as a smart, affordable new-energy brand.

The cost control behind the low price was explained by product director Pan Wenjun. He cited the early adoption of Huawei's IPD (Integrated Product Development) process in 2019, the scale procurement advantages of Dongfeng Group, and support from Liuzhou's local industrial cluster. The team reused proven components from the market, avoided traditional bidding by presenting business plans to key suppliers, and integrated technologies such as a six-in-one e-drive and a fifteen-in-one thermal management module to simplify the vehicle architecture and reduce costs.

Targeting families with flexible space

The Xinghai V6 measures 4.8 meters in length and features a third-row seat that can be folded flat, along with a 70-liter front trunk, which the company says is unique in its class. According to marketing director Chen Zhengyu, user research from six offline events showed that about 70% of potential buyers prioritize flexible space that can switch between four- and six-seat configurations, while over 60% value the Huawei ADAS.

The vehicle comes with highway NCA (navigation-assisted driving), a memory parking function that works for up to one kilometer, and city LCC+ (lane centering control plus). However, city end-to-end autonomous driving is not included due to cost constraints, Chen explained. He added that the current market for vehicles combining Huawei ADAS with a large six-seat layout is still empty.

Dongfeng Fengxing also revealed plans for a future 'Explorer' version with original factory quality and warranty, unlike third-party modifications. The company has set up an independent autonomous driving R&D center, and for export models, it currently uses other ADAS solutions, with Huawei's overseas collaboration still under discussion.
