Dongfeng CEO meets Huawei's Ren Zhengfei as Yijing X9 SUV nears launch

Dongfeng Motor's general manager Feng Changjun met Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei in Shenzhen to deepen their strategic partnership ahead of the Yijing X9's launch on September 24. The Yijing X9, a family SUV co-developed by the two companies, will feature Huawei's full-stack intelligent driving and cockpit systems.

Dongfeng Motor's general manager Feng Changjun met Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei and senior Huawei executives in Shenzhen on September 22, just days before the launch of the Yijing X9, the first model from the jointly developed Yijing brand. The meeting focused on deepening strategic cooperation and coordinating technological innovation, according to PCauto.

The Yijing brand represents a novel collaboration model between the two companies, described as 'full-stack native integration.' This approach combines Huawei's IPD/IPMS management systems, quality standards, and complete intelligent vehicle solutions with Dongfeng's 57 years of manufacturing experience and supply chain resources. The partnership aims to create a 'third path' for Chinese automakers, moving beyond conventional joint ventures.

Yijing X9: A family flagship with Huawei intelligence

The Yijing X9, positioned as a second-generation family flagship SUV, will be equipped with Huawei's six major intelligent vehicle solutions, including the Qiankun ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and HarmonySpace cockpit. It will come standard with Huawei's ADS 5 autonomous driving system, which the companies describe as a 'personal driver for the whole family.' The vehicle also debuts HarmonySpace 6, featuring a new MoLA intelligent agent and the HAMOMO AI companion robot.

In terms of safety, the X9 introduces the 'Tianqiong Zhidun' (Sky Dome Shield), a full-time safety architecture that extends protection from risk prediction to post-accident rescue and cabin health monitoring. The system aims to provide pre-event prediction, in-event intervention, and post-event support.

Pre-sales for the Yijing X9 began on August 18, and PCauto reports that orders have been strong, indicating market acceptance of the full-stack integration concept. The companies plan to maintain a product cadence of five models over three years under the Yijing brand.

During the meeting, Feng presented Ren with a custom model of the Yijing X9. The dialogue was described as an annual review of the Dongfeng-Huawei cooperation and a new starting point for their long-term partnership. The Yijing X9 is scheduled to go on sale on September 24.
