Dongfeng and Huawei launch Yijing X9 family flagship from 279,800 yuan

Dongfeng and Huawei's first co-developed family flagship, the Yijing X9, launched on September 24 with full Huawei Qiankun stack, starting at 279,800 yuan (about $39,400).

Dongfeng Motor and Huawei have launched their first jointly developed family flagship, the Yijing X9, at a launch event on September 24. The model, which comes with Huawei's full Qiankun intelligent vehicle suite, is offered in five configurations with a limited-time promotional price starting at 279,800 yuan (about $39,400) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.

The Yijing X9 is the first vehicle to feature Huawei's ADS 5 autonomous driving system and HarmonySpace 6 cockpit, according to Chinese outlet Diandongbang. It also includes Huawei's Chitu platform, XMC six-domain architecture, and a full aluminum chassis. The vehicle is positioned as a second-generation family flagship, building on the first generation's "refrigerator, TV, and sofa" concept with added "dedicated driver" and "assistant" features.

Safety and smart driving highlights

For perception safety, the Yijing X9 comes standard with a 896-line dual-optical image-grade lidar capable of detecting low obstacles at 120 meters, along with 32 high-performance sensors. The system uses fused perception to compensate for human visual limitations, providing clear recognition of blind spots, nearby walls, and curbs, even in darkness, glare, or rain.

In terms of handling, the Chitu platform and XMC six-domain architecture act as a "cerebellum" for dynamic coordination. The system can intervene in milliseconds during a tire blowout, as demonstrated at the launch when the vehicle maintained a straight line after a blowout at 120 km/h. The body uses 2400MPa ultra-high-strength steel, which the company claims can withstand the weight of four adult elephants on a coin-sized area.

The ADS 5 system enables NCA (navigation-assisted driving) activation in various scenarios, including parks, roundabouts, and rural roads. A new RCA (roaming cruise assist) feature allows assisted driving without setting a destination. Parking assistance has been upgraded to handle extremely narrow, corner, and angled spaces.

Cockpit and ecosystem

The HarmonySpace 6 cockpit introduces an AI companion robot called "Hamengmeng" and an AMS multi-modal fusion sensing system. This system lets children control windows, sunshades, and reading lights by pointing, and can detect children leaning out of windows, seat anti-pinch, and child or pet left-behind alerts. The cabin offers 43 storage compartments, dual zero-gravity front seats, a second-row movie mode, and a bed mode for the second and third rows, plus dual 17.2-inch screens and a laser projection "open-air mode."

Huawei's Senior Vice President and Yinwang CEO Jin Yuzhi said at the event that Huawei Qiankun's ADAS and HarmonyOS cockpit installations, as well as its app user base, each surpassed two million by the end of August 2026. He also noted that Huawei Qiankun-assisted driving mileage exceeded 15.5 billion kilometers. The Yijing X9 also connects to a 10-minute smart driving life circle covering 1.2 million parking lots, 3,000 car washes, and 2 million charging piles, and supports over 50 dedicated HarmonyOS cockpit apps and 50,000 phone apps.

The launch included three basic benefits: lifetime free basic data, five-year/100,000 km free roadside assistance, and the ADS high-end function package. Eight limited-time benefits worth up to 78,000 yuan (about $11,000) are also available. The Yijing X9 is now on sale, and future OTA updates will bring the latest ADAS and cockpit features.
