Denza N8 debuts triple-folding UI, redefining smart cockpit interaction

Denza, BYD's premium brand, has unveiled a new UI system for the N8 SUV featuring a 'triple-folding' floating window design and a dual-screen setup, aiming to elevate the smart cockpit experience.

Denza, BYD's premium electric-vehicle brand, has introduced a new user interface (UI) for its N8 SUV that adopts a 'triple-folding' floating window design, a first in the industry. The system, showcased at a recent media preview, aims to redefine smart cockpit interaction with flexible window layouts and a dual-screen configuration.

According to NetEase Auto, the new UI allows each floating window to fold in three ways, letting drivers and passengers adjust window size and shape based on their needs. Users can drag and combine windows freely, such as displaying navigation and music side-by-side during commutes or switching to a 'watch and sing' mode for entertainment. The system also supports syncing with foldable phones, where the car's display mirrors the phone's folding state.

Dual-screen setup with high brightness

The N8's cockpit features a 1.1-meter 'Skyline Screen' with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,500 nits peak brightness, alongside a 30-inch panoramic display with 1,100 nits brightness and low blue-light certification. The company claims the screens remain clear even in strong sunlight, offering an IMAX-like experience.

The UI design incorporates a 'liquid glass' aesthetic, with subtle light effects and gradient backgrounds that create a sense of depth. Media attendees praised the interface as 'intuitive' and 'visually refreshing,' with some comparing the experience to using a computer desktop.

This launch underscores BYD's shift from purely technical innovation to a focus on design and user experience, as the company seeks to differentiate its premium Denza brand in China's competitive EV market.
