Deepal, the new-energy vehicle brand backed by Changan Automobile, has introduced the S07 AI Laser Edition, a mid-size electric SUV that brings lidar and an end-to-end driver-assistance system to the 150,000-yuan price segment. The model is priced at a limited-time promotional price of 149,900 to 169,900 yuan (about $21,100 to $23,900) in China, before taxes and incentives, according to NetEase Auto.
The launch follows Deepal's milestone of producing its one-millionth vehicle on September 28, a feat the brand achieved in 49 months. The S07 AI Laser Edition is positioned as a technology-focused variant within the S07 lineup, which already includes pure electric and extended-range versions.
Lidar and end-to-end AI driving
The S07 AI Laser Edition integrates 27 high-precision sensors, including a roof-mounted lidar, and uses a one-stage end-to-end driving algorithm based on a world behavior model. The system supports highway pilot and city navigation assistance, as well as automated parking for narrow or irregular spaces. The car also incorporates 24 active safety features, including automatic emergency braking (AEB).
Inside, the vehicle runs Deepal OS 4.3 with a 15.6-inch rotating "sunflower" touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 55-inch augmented-reality head-up display. The infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip and integrates ByteDance's Doubao large language model, enabling voice commands that can interpret context and execute multi-step actions. The cabin also features a 4.7-liter refrigerator, front zero-gravity seats with 16-way adjustment, and a 1.9-square-meter panoramic sunroof.
Range and charging
The S07 AI Laser Edition is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 210 kW (282 hp) and 290 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It uses a CATL-supplied battery with Deepal's "Golden Bell" protection system. The CLTC-rated range is 725 km (about 450 miles), which translates to an estimated 580-615 km (360-382 miles) under WLTP conditions, as CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP.
The vehicle supports 800-volt fast charging with a 6C charge rate, allowing a 30% to 80% state-of-charge in 9 minutes. A micro-pulse high-frequency heating feature enables charging at temperatures as low as -30°C, and an AI-based charging function optimizes cell temperature and charging routes to extend battery life.
The S07 AI Laser Edition is available in China now, with deliveries expected to begin shortly. The model underscores Deepal's push to offer advanced driver-assistance and AI features at accessible price points, a strategy that has helped the brand reach its one-million-unit milestone.
