Deepal, Changan's electric-vehicle brand, celebrated the production of its one-millionth vehicle on September 28 by launching the new S07 AI Laser Edition, a mid-size SUV that brings lidar-based driver assistance and 800V fast charging to the 150,000-yuan price bracket. The four variants, priced at a limited-time promotional range of 149,900 to 169,900 yuan (about $21,100 to $23,900), are among the first models in China to integrate ByteDance's Doubao large language model in an open-domain setup, according to the company's announcement.
The S07 AI Laser Edition comes in four trims: 725 ZhiZhen AI Laser, 725 ZhiXing AI Laser, 600 ZhiZhen AI Laser, and 600 ZhiXing AI Laser, with the numbers referring to CLTC range in kilometres. The top 725 versions offer a claimed 725 km (450 miles) on the CLTC cycle, which is roughly 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard, translating to an estimated 580-615 km (360-382 miles) WLTP. The 600 trims provide 600 km (373 miles) CLTC, or an estimated 480-510 km (298-317 miles) WLTP. All prices are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
Lidar and AI cabin
The vehicle is equipped with 27 sensors including one roof-mounted lidar, enabling a full-scenario driver assistance system that covers urban roads, highways, and parking. The system, which Deepal says is free for buyers (a 15,000 yuan value compared to the industry's typical 10,000-20,000 yuan charge), handles roundabouts, unprotected left turns, narrow road passing, and mixed traffic in cities, plus ramp entry and exit and intelligent lane changes on highways. Parking features include remote control, exit-vehicle parking, and reverse tracking for tight or dead-end spaces.
Inside, the S07 AI Laser Edition runs Deepal's AI cabin powered by the Doubao model, allowing voice commands for navigation, vehicle controls, and chit-chat. The AI can plan multi-stop trips from a single sentence, such as "refuel first, then drop a colleague at Guanyinqiao, and finally go home," and adjust routes mid-drive. It uses voice recognition to identify up to ten emotions and offers a child-specific mode. Eight exterior microphones and a 20W speaker enable outside voice commands like opening the trunk or playing music. The system processes simple tasks on-device for millisecond responses, even in tunnels or underground garages without network, while complex tasks use cloud computing with privacy data kept local.
Battery and charging
The S07 AI Laser Edition uses CATL cells in Deepal's Jinzhongbao battery pack, supporting 6C high-rate charging on an 800V platform. Deepal claims 9 minutes of charging adds nearly 400 km (249 miles) of range, or 80 li (40 km, 25 miles) per minute. The pack has a cycle life exceeding 5,000 charges, and Deepal says its million vehicles have experienced zero thermal incidents. The electric motor, a silicon-carbide unit producing 210 kW (282 hp), delivers a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 6.8 seconds, with efficiency improvements adding 30 km (19 miles) of range per charge.
The chassis includes standard FSD and HRS adaptive suspension that adjusts damping in real-time, aiming to reduce brake dive, body roll, and bump harshness. Safety features include a super anti-slip mode, high-speed tire blowout stability control, and Bosch IPB2.0 braking, with the body structure earning five-star ratings in China's C-NCAP, Europe's E-NCAP, and Australia's A-NCAP tests. The cabin features six screens, including a 15.6-inch 2.5K rotating display and a 55-inch AR-HUD, plus a 20-speaker, 2,232W audio system.
Deepal, established in 2022, has reached its one-millionth vehicle in four years, a milestone CEO Deng Chenghao called "not the end, but the starting point for the next faster million." The company, which handles Changan's battery and electric-drive development, has won national technology awards for its battery safety management and heating systems.
