Chery launches new QQ3 Modeng edition in China from 83,900 yuan

Chery has launched the new QQ3 Modeng edition in China, a retro-styled small BEV priced from 83,900 yuan (about $11,800), with sales topping 19,000 units in August.

Chery has launched the new QQ3 Modeng edition in China, a retro-styled small battery-electric vehicle (BEV) that builds on the strong market performance of the standard QQ3. The car went on sale at an event in Wuhu on September 22, with a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives of 88,900 yuan (about $12,500). Chery is offering a limited-time trade-in price of 83,900 yuan (about $11,800) and a discounted price of 86,900 yuan (about $12,200) for existing customers, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (DianDongBang).

The Modeng edition, whose name means "modern" in Chinese, is positioned as a more stylish version of the QQ3. It features a Neo Retro design language that blends classic styling cues with modern manufacturing, including a six-layer 2K paint finish supplied by the same vendors used by luxury carmakers. The car also gets special touches such as a "time badge" wheel design, racing-style decals and retro white bumpers, with exclusive paint options called Modeng Era and Annie Pearl.

Specs and safety

Inside, the Modeng edition offers a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm 8155 chip, along with a Carmind AI voice assistant. It comes with a 540-degree camera system, 12 ultrasonic sensors, automatic parking for over 100 scenarios and L2-level driver assistance. A 70-litre powered front trunk supports eight opening methods, and the car provides 6.6kW of external power discharge for outdoor use.

Chery says the body uses high-strength steel for 82 percent of its structure, including a 1300MPa one-piece hot-formed door ring. The battery, called Rhino Battery, uses cells from CATL and the vehicle has passed the China Automotive Technology and Research Center's NESTA six-dimensional electrical safety certification.

The launch event in Wuhu featured six customised show cars ranging from a Chinese-style design to a pet-themed "cat car" and an outdoor adventure version, highlighting the QQ3's customisation potential. Chinese actress Sun Li, who serves as global brand ambassador for Chery and the QQ brand, attended and took part in a delivery ceremony for the first customers.

Strong sales momentum

The new QQ3 has been a strong seller since its launch. Chery says the QQ series has cumulative sales of over 1.6 million units across more than 100 countries, and the new QQ3 has exceeded 10,000 monthly sales for five consecutive months. In August, sales reached 19,103 units, up 64.07 percent month-on-month, with about 100,000 orders still awaiting delivery both at home and abroad.

Chery executive Zhang Hongyu, who oversees the QQ brand, said at the launch that the Modeng edition combines classic looks with a native intelligent electric platform, professional chassis tuning and global quality validation. The company aims to extend the QQ brand's "happy" image from a product experience into a broader cultural expression as it continues to sell the car internationally.
